Another weekend in the Super League ends on Sunday when the remaining two matches take place one after the other on what should be a really day of rugby league, as four of the best teams to watch in the competition battle it out for regular league points.
We saw two decent performances on Saturday so the four sides in action on Sunday already have a lot to live up to. Both the matches are live on Sky for those of us in the UK so there is no need to miss a minute of either match.
Format and Rule Changes
There has been a change in the format of the season. The ‘loop matches’ and Magic Weekend have bitten the dust so teams will play 20 regular season matches ahead of the playoffs. Scrums are a thing of the past for the remainder of the season. They are being replaced with a tap restart to prevent the spread of the virus. The ‘six to go’ rule that is being used in NRL is also coming into the Super League with more eyes likely to be on the game with other sports yet to get back up and running.

St Helens vs Castleford Tigers (16.15)
The first of the two eagerly anticipated matches on Sunday sees the home side for the weekend in St Helens taking on a team who beat them just prior to the lockdown in Castleford Tigers in what should be a cracking start to the day.
These two go into the match off the back of very different experiences last weekend. The Castleford Tigers were trounced by the Catalans Dragons although that form doesn’t look as bad after Saturday, whereas St Helens had a resounding win over the Leeds Rhinos, albeit one which was missing a number of players due to injury. Castleford were without a couple of key men against the Dragons which didn’t help matters for them either it must be said.
Cas seem to raise their game to take on St Helens and while I think the Saints will win this match, to expect them to cover 16pts is asking a lot in what could be greasy conditions at the Totally Wicked Stadium and against a side who seem to match up well to them. The Tigers will be smarting at their loss last week but just having Liam Watts back and the addition of Gareth O’Brien to free Greg Eden up out wide could make a real difference. I expect St Helens to win the game but 16pts is too big a start to ignore on Castleford.
Wigan Warriors vs Leeds Rhinos (18.30)
The second match of the day on Sunday sees the former Super League champions Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos battling it out in a match which could have a key say in the overall top four picture when we look back at the season once it has concluded.
Both these teams have made good starts to the season although it is fair to say neither were at their best last week. Leeds were wiped out by St Helens but missed key players with late injuries while Wigan Warriors edged past Wakefield Trinity but in nothing like the style that Catalans Dragons blew them away with on Saturday. The return of Konrad Hurrell, Rob Lui and Liam Sutcliffe should make the Rhinos stronger but save for a magic 15 minutes against Huddersfield Giants, Leeds have been pony since the restart. I can’t be backing them but I’d like to see a bit more from Wigan before I take them to cover 10pts against a side of Leeds’ stature. I’ll sit this one out.
