The Super League continues on Thursday night as round two of the new season gets underway and after all the sides begin their campaigns at Headingley last week, it is the Totally Wicked Stadium, home of St Helens, which stages this set of games.
It all begins on Thursday with a double header of action which involves the ‘host’ side even though their match is an away one. Just like last week both of the 2020 Grand Finalists are on show on what should be a decent starter to the Easter weekend.
Where to watch
The double header will be shown live on the Sky Sports Main Event and the Sky Sports Arena channels. The lead up to the matches begins at 5.30pm with the games themselves kicking off at 6pm and 8.15pm.
Wigan Warriors vs Wakefield Trinity (18.00)
The opening match of the weekend sees the beaten finalists from last season in Wigan Warriors taking on a side who have given them plenty of problems over the last five years or so in Wakefield Trinity.
These two sides got off to different starts last week. Wigan came from 18-0 down to see off the Leigh Centurions whereas Trinity surrendered a good looking half-time advantage to be beaten by the Leeds Rhinos. Both teams showed flashes of good moments as well as some that were not so good. Wigan have Jackson Hastings back for this match which usually would pep them up but they have issues on the wing with Jai Field now out for the majority of the season with his torn hamstring in game one. Wakefield look stronger on paper as well with Ryan Hampshire and Jay Pitts added to their squad so we should be in for a competitive encounter here.
Wigan have won their last four meetings with Wakefield having dropped four of the previous six, but only one of them has been convincing and I’m not convinced this will be much easier for them. They are perennial slow starters to a campaign and if Wakefield are going to trouble them it will be here. We saw enough in that Wakefield attack last week to suggest they can breach this Warriors defence and clearly Wigan’s attack is not going to be at full strength with so many backs missing, including the potent Bevan French. Whether that means Wakefield will win here I’m not sure but they can stay within 14.

Hull KR vs St Helens (20.15)
The team who are hosting this week play in the second match of the evening and it is Hull KR who have drawn the short straw of having to play a home match at the ground of the team they are facing, in the form of St Helens.
The champions got up and running in emphatic nature last week against the Salford Red Devils and they are expected to follow that up with a win here too with bookmakers asking them to cover a 20 point handicap. Hull KR almost pinched a game they had no right to win last week, coming from 28-4 down to level it with the Catalans Dragons before losing in Golden Point extra time. We saw enough in that match that they might be competitive here but I don’t expect St Helens to fold and lose their discipline like the Dragons did. We also saw Hull KR ripped open defensively which is a concern here. I expect Saints to win here and they should probably cover that 20 points but it is too early in the season for me to be betting big caps like that.
