Super League XXVI – Thursday 22nd April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League continues on Thursday evening when once again the two Grand Finalists of last term are in action on a night where two matches take place as we start to get a feel for who will be competitive and who won’t this term.

One of the matches gets the televised treatment on Thursday evening while the other can be watched on the Our League streaming service so there isn’t any need to miss any of the action over the course of the evening.

Wigan Warriors vs Castleford Tigers (18.00)

The first match of the two on the evening sees the team who were beaten in the Grand Final last year in Wigan Warriors playing host to the Castleford Tigers in a match which sees two unbeaten sides going at it.

Wigan have started the season a lot better than we are used to them doing which you feel is already ominous for the rest of the competition and it would appear that they finally have Bevan French available for selection here, which could mean they only get even stronger from here on in. Castleford have been very appealing so far this term and that motivation of sending Daryl Powell out on a high seems to be working very nicely. They have already beaten Leeds and Warrington this season but you sense this is their biggest test. I wouldn’t put anyone off siding with the Tigers on the handicap but everything odds wise looks about right to me so I’m happy to focus on the other game for a bet.

Huddersfield Giants vs St Helens (19.45 – Sky Sports Arena & Sky Sports Mix)

The televised match on Thursday evening sees two teams who have made very different starts to their season in action when the currently winless Huddersfield Giants host the rampant unbeaten champions St Helens at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Giants were expected to emerge as contenders for the title under the highly rated Ian Watson this term. They might still prevail to do that but they have looked very ordinary so far and even the return of Aidan Sezer never changed that last week. There have been no such issues with St Helens. It looked impossible for them to be any stronger than they were last season but they appear to have managed it and already they are looking certainties to get to Old Trafford and attempt to retain their title.

The handicap lines here are asking St Helens to cover 10 points which I think is very possible. I say that for two reasons. No has been able to contain this Saints attack yet and no team in the Super League have been able to put more than six points on the board against them. You wouldn’t say Huddersfield have been fluent in attack yet this season and they have made some very sloppy mistakes in defence. It is hard to see St Helens not winning this going away and covering the 10pts here.
