The Super League continues on Friday evening and as we begin to head towards Magic Weekend in two weeks there are a couple of matches which will go further towards guiding us in the direction of who could be competing in the play-offs come the end of the campaign.
One of the two matches is live on the TV for us to enjoy and then the other one will come with all the usual updates be it in the TV coverage, through radio commentary or the various social media outlets. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game.
Warrington Wolves vs Hull FC (20.00 – Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Arena)
The televised action comes from the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday evening where the home side Warrington Wolves will look to inject some life into what has been a very disappointing season when they host Hull FC.
Hull FC haven’t exactly been convincing or consistent at any stage of this season but they have won matches at the right time and go into this match sitting in fifth in the table. They won’t need anyone to tell them there are a queue of teams beginning to jostle in behind them in the race for the play-offs and after looking good for the top six last term only to fade and miss out, they’ll be eager to avoid a repeat here. Hull FC came out with the surprise announcement earlier in the week that Josh Reynolds has been released and with Jake Connor injured that is likely to put a lot of strain on Luke Gale. Warrington Wolves have been terrible way too often this season and it is only the lop-sided nature of four teams looking significantly better than the others that has kept their campaign alive. They are now at the stage where they have to put a number of wins together else they will be watching on when it comes to the run into Old Trafford.
The Wolves are odds on for this match but although Hull FC aren’t the most trustworthy, especially on the road, I’m not sure I could be taking a short price on a team who have only won two of their last 13 matches in all competitions, a run which includes three defeats to a poor Wakefield Trinity side and a loss to this opponent. It was a big call to boot Josh Reynolds out for Brett Hodgson and if results don’t lift off the back of it he’ll be the next to go so at odds against I’ll back him to force a tune out of his side.

Wigan Warriors vs Toulouse Olympique (20.00)
The match away from the TV cameras comes from the DW Stadium where the Challenge Cup holders Wigan will look to continue their push for a top two finish in the Super League when they host the bottom club Toulouse Olympique.
To be fair to the French outfit, they have been getting more competitive the longer the season has gone on. The problem is this table is based on wins not being competitive and they just haven’t picked up enough of them. They are going to find it hard to win here too with Wigan seemingly having taken a huge lift from winning the cup and are beginning to move into a force to be reckoned with once again. Wigan are getting asked to cover a three try handicap in this match which I think is about right and while I would back them to cover it if I had to, I’m not all that confident about it so I’m happy to let them cover it if they are good enough. There is too much room for a backdoor cover to scupper us by siding with Wigan on the handicap but I don’t like relying on covers in that way either.
