Another week of action in the Super League begins on Thursday evening when two Yorkshire outfits look to find some form when Wakefield Trinity play host to the Huddersfield Giants at the Be Well Support Stadium.
These two sides didn’t have the Easter period that they would have desired and so both will look to head closer to the halfway mark in the season with a win which will not only boost their league position but restore a bit of confidence.

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Mix channel with the build-up to proceedings beginning at 7.30pm and the match itself kicking off at 8pm.
Wakefield Trinity
Wakefield go into this contest having lost their last three matches in the Super League and four in total if you include the loss to Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup. In fact, the Warriors have accounted for a pair of those defeats and while they are not necessarily bad results, the losses to the Castleford Tigers and Hull KR, and particularly the margin of those losses will be more of a concern to them.
They have won three matches in the Super League this term so there is no immediate danger of them being relegated or anything but those three victories came against Toulouse, a Warrington side in disarray at the time and Salford Red Devils so you couldn’t exactly get much of a form guide from them. Importantly they have David Fifita back for this match so the pack should be a lot more dynamic but they need to improve defensively.
Huddersfield Giants
I thought all along that the Huddersfield Giants would be play-off contenders this season and that is exactly how it is proving but they have just dipped in terms of results since they won through to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup. Whether that is a coincidence, a result of eyes being on Elland Road next weekend or injuries hitting them hard or even a combination of the three only they will know but they will be eager to get back on track here.
To be fair to the Giants, their three-match winless burst has seen them draw with the Leeds Rhinos, not an ideal result but maybe not a disaster, lose to St Helens which is par for the course at the minute and then lose to a Warrington Wolves side who might be starting to find themselves again so you can excuse them those results. It doesn’t detract from the fact that they will want to win this match but against the so called weaker sides their record hasn’t been too bad.

Team News
Wakefield Trinity will have David Fifita back for the first time in six matches and he will certainly be welcomed back. With the key trio of Tom Johnstone, Mason Lino and Jacob Miller all back in the squad now too we might see the best of Wakefield.
Huddersfield Giants will be without their forward Chris Hill after he picked up a ban after the defeat to Warrington last week. Tui Lolohea and Jack Cogger are also both suspended. Theo Fages is back in the squad after injury.
Betting
Wakefield Trinity haven’t just got poor form to overturn but they have also got the horrible dilemma of conceding too many points and struggling to register their own to overcome as well. In each of their last four losses they have failed to put up more than 10 points and you won’t be winning many Super League matches without scoring points. They might improve with Fifita back for this match but even if they do their defence is a concern. They have conceded 32pts or more in those four losses and are averaging more than 26pts against them this season.
Huddersfield Giants have gone a bit flat in recent matches but I don’t think they are a bad side. They probably don’t match up well to the stronger squads in the Super League but I think they are fine against the rest. They are pretty good defensively when you consider they have only conceded 176 points in their 10 matches and that is better still when St Helens and Warrington contributed 56 of those in the last two games. That defensive strength can certainly help them here and while I’m sure Ian Watson would like to see more points from his side, they might naturally come against a Wakefield defence which is leaking plenty. I’ll always take the better defensive side and that is the Giants and I think they are capable of covering four points.
