Super League XXVIII – Friday 24th March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXVIII weekend continues on Friday night when three matches take place as half of the competition will look to better their position as we head towards what is always a busy Easter period in the division.

With it being a Friday night we have one match live on the TV to enjoy and the other two matches will get regular updates and then there are often highlights of the play after the live game has concluded. We’ll begin with the TV game.

Wigan Warriors vs Salford Red Devils (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The TV cameras have had a late switch in direction on Friday night and will now appear at the DW Stadium where the Wigan Warriors will play host to the Salford Red Devils in a clash between third and fourth in the early table.

Both teams have picked up three wins from their opening five matches but they have each suffered a surprise defeat to Hull KR so consistency will be the watch word heading into this match. Wigan lost their opening match of the season to Hull KR but have bounced back with three wins from four including a good win at Huddersfield last week. Salford have won their last two but were surprisingly taken to Golden Point extra time by Wakefield last week. They showed what they are capable of the week before that though when they destroyed Hull FC. You get the feeling this will be a bit of an arm wrestle and the team which can get on top in the battle of the wingers could be the ones to come out on top. There have been positive team news for Salford with Joe Burgess and Tim Lafai both back so this should be a cracking contest. I would expect Wigan to edge this one but this certainly doesn’t feel like a double digit game so Salford with a two converted try start looks the play here to me.

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull KR (20.00)

The TV cameras were meant to be at Belle Vue on Friday night for the clash between Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR but concerns over the state of the pitch saw this one lose TV status so Wakefield will look for their first win of the campaign away from the spotlight.

They have lost their opening five matches and didn’t score a single point in three of those but they pushed Salford all the way last week, albeit it was a Salford side missing their entire left edge. Hull KR started the season brightly but then injuries and suspensions struck and they have lost their last three now. This looks like an ideal chance to get back on the winning train and level up their ledger for the campaign but given the pitch issues Wakefield have and the knocks Hull KR have I would want to see how these two line up before I even consider a bet on this one. Even then I would probably be happy to leave this one alone.

Castleford Tigers vs Warrington Wolves (20.00)

The other match on Friday evening comes from The Jungle where there will be some spice in the air as Daryl Powell heads back for a second time when he takes his Warrington Wolves side into battle with the Castleford Tigers.

The Tigers picked up their first win of the season over Leeds last week and will be looking to build on that with another one over Warrington but the Wolves are perfect for the campaign so far and will be looking to pick up a sixth win for their campaign and continue to plough a furrow at the top of the pile. Cas deserve a bit of credit for getting themselves together and beating Leeds last week but they naturally get themselves up for that match. They will hope the Daryl Powell sideshow gives them equal motivation here. Despite all that, I expect Warrington to win this one but they are due a defeat and piling up the points away from home probably isn’t their overriding aim. Any win will do so I’ll leave this one alone.
