England are former winners of the T20 World Cup and as the 50 over world champions they will head to the UAE as one of the favourites to complete the white ball double. They will have to defy history to achieve that however as no team has ever held both the white ball world titles at the same time before. That should act as all the motivation England need to give this their best shot.

Team Guide
England are one of the best white ball teams around and have been for quite a while so the expectation is that they at least make the knockout stages of this competition. If that is going to happen their batters might need to modify their game and rein themselves in a bit. The foundation of the success of England in the last five years or so has been their aggressive with the bat, but these conditions are probably not going to be conducive to that so their success or otherwise will be determined on whether they have the ability to adjust.
The other issue England will have is these conditions aren’t the ideal ones for their bowlers. There is no doubting that England have the skill within their bowling attack to thrive on these pitches but when something isn’t natural it can be hard to do it all the time. If England can bowl well then they’ve got to believe a couple of their batsmen will come off each match and if that happens they are going to be tough to stop.
Betting
In truth there isn’t a huge amount I’m desperate to go at in the England markets for the tournament but I just wonder if there can be some mileage in Moeen Ali at 20/1. He won’t start the competition batting up the order but he could quite easily finish it up there. I don’t think Dawid Malan is the answer to the England problems at number three and it might be that they quickly realise that Moeen is the answer and shove him up the order.
Moeen is the best player of spin in the England team and that is going to be a huge thing in this competition, especially against two Asian sides and three other teams who could all be playing three spinners in every match. When you look at the England order, Bairstow is probably the only guaranteed fixture between 3-6 right now so there is definitely scope for Moeen to bat at three like he did in the IPL. We’ll be done for if he stays at seven all competition but the longer this thing goes on the more the need to pull a rabbit out of the hat might come along. I’ll burn a point to see if Moeen is that trick play.
