The Olympic tennis event continues on Tuesday out in the Tokyo 2020 Games when the remainder of the second round of the men’s singles takes place over at the Ariake Tennis Park and the entire last 16 of the women’s draw.
That all means we have some real stars in action over the course of the day including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Barbora Krejcikova and the poster girl of the games Naomi Osaka. The other tennis star from this part of the world also plays on Tuesday when Kei Nishikori takes to the courts.
Men’s Singles
Eight matches take place in the men’s draw on Tuesday and after a fairly dramatic day on Monday we are potentially in for another on Tuesday when the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Kei Nishikori and Diego Schwartzman are among those who are on show on the card. Other lively outsiders such as Hubert Hurkacz and Aslan Karatsev are also on the card.
There isn’t a whole lot that I like over the course of the day in the men’s competition. I do have both my outrights on show though so hopefully they can come through and move closer to securing a payout of some kind. If I was going to get involved I might look towards Frances Tiafoe who beat Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon and the Greek star had a marathon match in the previous round. I’m not as convinced as I’d like to be though.

Women’s Singles
Until such time when Naomi Osaka is knocked out of this competition, the women’s event will continue to be the one the majority of the eyes are on. That is unlikely to come on Tuesday even though the Australian Open champion is in action. It is hard to see Marketa Vondrousova causing her too many problems. The other leading lights still in the competition include Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova, Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina and Garbine Muguruza. I like one bet in the women’s draw.
That comes in the match between Donna Vekic and Elena Rybakina and I’m expecting the Kazakh star to come through here and to do it with a bit in hand. I say that because Vekic has gone more than 2:30 in both of her matches so far this week and there is only so much energy the body has in these zapping conditions. The second of those matches was on Monday when she was quite late on court and taking on Aryna Sabalenka for 2:38 can’t be good preparation for Rybakina who has breezed through the draw. Fitness and energy are going to be key things in the women’s draw on Tuesday. That makes me side with Rybakina to win 2-0.
Doubles
The doubles draws continue over the course of the play on Tuesday and we are starting to head towards the medal matches in those competitions but still there isn’t a whole lot that stands out to me in the schedule on Tuesday. It might be that it is another day of shocks but there isn’t really anything I’m desperate to get stuck into.
