The second round of matches in the UEFA Nations League competition comes to a close on Wednesday when the remaining four games are played out across the continent on a night where the top leagues are in focus.
There are four games in total which cover two groups of the competition and as those tables begin to take shape there is an importance on each of the games for a whole number of reasons such is the beauty of this tournament.
League A
It is section A4 where the attention in the top league will be centred on Wednesday evening. The majority of the eyes will be on Cardiff where Wales will have to make a quick return to earth after the jubilant scenes of their World Cup qualification on Sunday. They play host to a Netherlands side who brutally battered Belgium last week. The other match in this section on Wednesday sees the aforementioned Belgium looking to bounce back from that mauling at the hands of the Dutch when they play host to Poland, who opened their campaign with a win over Wales last week.

League B
It will be all about section B1 in the second tier on Wednesday evening when two sides who have been involved in World Cup qualifying over the last week look to put disappointment behind them as they begin their UEFA Nations League campaign. Ukraine got closest to qualifying for the World Cup and their season will begin away to the Republic of Ireland who started this term with an embarrassing loss to Armenia. Scotland were the other losers in World Cup qualifying last week and they will do battle looking to bounce back when they play host to the Armenians.
Betting
There won’t be any points for originality with my bet on Wednesday evening but the Netherlands on the Asian lines looks too good to turn down. There are a number of reasons for that, all of which are fairly obvious. The main one being the scenes after the win over Ukraine on Sunday where Wales quite rightly enjoyed all the jubilation and everything that went with ending a 64 year exile from the World Cup. To go from those scenes to a more low key one is never easy regardless of the celebrations that followed.
Wales would have celebrated that win and that was only on Sunday. The fact it was on Sunday means there is next to no chance of Gareth Bale playing a significant role here and it would be a surprise if Aaron Ramsey did likewise. The Netherlands haven’t played since last Thursday so they will be much fresher. The other thing to consider is that although Wales won that match on Sunday, they were outplayed for the most part and if Ukraine had the quality up front that the Netherlands have they would be going to the World Cup and not Wales. I expect the Welsh to be put to the sword here.
