World Series of Darts Finals – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

The second and last day of the World Series of Darts Finals sees the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final all played out on another bumper day of tungsten tossing up in Glasgow.

The opening day of the tournament saw shocks galore but the eight players who made it through will be relieved to see the format go up to the best of 19 legs for the quarter finals in the afternoon on Sunday. As ever time restrictions stop us from getting involved in the second session of Sunday but we can have a go at the quarter finals.

Adrian Lewis vs Dave Chisnall

The quarter finals begin with an all-Premier League battle between Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall. If we were betting purely on what we saw on Saturday we would be all over Dave Chisnall but we all know how well Lewis can play.

As it is we’ve not seen the best of Adrian Lewis for a while whereas we saw the best of Chisnall on Saturday evening when he averaged over 112 in defeating a very good Kim Huybrechts. It was hard not to take notice of that performance given how good it was and with Chisnall having a good recent record over Lewis that further adds to the confidence in backing the man in the canary shirt.

This might have plenty of legs in it in terms of the match distance but the way Chisnall scored and indeed finished on Saturday night suggests he should a much stronger favourite than he is so the 10/11 on him winning should be taken.

Michael van Gerwen vs Simon Whitlock

For the second weekend in a row Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock meet. Whitlock missed a dart at a double to take care of the world number one last week and given that he played two excellent matches on Saturday, the Australian will be fancying his chances here.

Van Gerwen struggled for focus against Gerwyn Price in the second round on Saturday night but that is unlikely to happen again here because he knows how good Whitlock is. That said the Dutchman has played a lot of darts matches recently so if he isn’t at his best that would be understandable.

You have to be a pretty brave or mad person to oppose van Gerwen in the match betting but Whitlock is playing well enough to make it to five legs whether MVG is on form or not. Whitlock with the 5.5 leg start is the way to go here.

Phil Taylor vs Benito van de Pas

Taylor had to come from behind to see off Mensur Suljovic on the opening night of the tournament but having done that and seen the likes of James Wade and Gary Anderson exit the event he will eye up a lucrative Sunday for sure.

Benito van de Pas was the man who took care of James Wade on Saturday night and is playing well but I think Taylor is a different kettle of fish entirely. The only thing that puts me off siding with Taylor in some capacity was the stick he was getting from the crowd which I’m expecting will continue here so I’ll leave this one alone.

Peter Wright vs Joe Cullen

For the eighth time in 2016 Peter Wright and Joe Cullen will meet each other. Wright won their first six meetings this year including in the UK Open and the World Matchplay but it was Cullen who won the most recent match they played in September.

I’m expecting Wright to win this match. He has a decent record here and will have the crowd on his side as the last remaining Scot in the tournament but his inconsistency of recent times is a concern. I think he’ll win but the handicap and things look about right so I’ll sit out of this one too.
