The first week of the US Open comes to a close on Saturday when another excellent schedule takes place to conclude the third round of the singles draws on the main courts at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The tournament is still reeling from the departure of Serena Williams, potentially for the final time, on Friday evening but the show must go on and star players keep on coming throughout a great looking day in the Big Apple.
Arthur Ashe Stadium
We begin with the women on Saturday on the main stadium. The leading ranked American player Jessica Pegula will look to make it through to the last 16 when she takes on Yue Yuan in what should be a routine win if the rankings is anything to go by. When they are done the day session will conclude with a cracker between Carlos Alcaraz and the determined American player Jenson Brooksby. It is the men who open up the night session for once on Saturday too. That sees Rafael Nadal taking on Richard Gasquet before Danielle Collins looks to continue her fine season when she meets Alize Cornet.
Louis Armstrong Stadium
If you have a ticket for the Louis Armstrong Stadium throughout the day you are not going to be disappointed as the schedule on there is lit in the day and night. The day session begins with two former Wimbledon champions colliding when Garbine Muguruza meets Petra Kvitova before Petra Martic goes up against Victoria Azarenka in what is sure to be a feisty battle. The day session concludes with Diego Schwartzman meeting Frances Tiafoe. We have a great night session too. That begins with the runaway world number one Iga Swiatek taking on Lauren Davis before Jannik Sinner and Brandon Nakashima lock horns to round off the night.
Grandstand
Fans over on the Grandstand court are also likely to be treated to some amazing tennis on Saturday as well because there are four good looking singles matches on there too. It gets underway with the British number one Cam Norrie looking to make it to the second week of a second straight Slam. He goes up against Holger Rune before the crackerjack match of the day between Denis Shapovalov and an Andrey Rublev who is seriously going under the radar. We then turn the attention to the women as Karolina Pliskova takes on the Olympic champion Belinda Bencic before Aryna Sabalenka meets Clara Burel.

Court 17
There are just the two singles matches on Court 17 on Saturday and we have to wait for a couple of doubles clashes to conclude before the singles comes to the party. When it does we get to see a former champion on show when Marin Cilic takes to the stage to take on a Dan Evans who has looked fairly good so far this week. When they are done the Wimbledon quarter finalist Jule Niemeier meets Qinwen Zheng for a place in the fourth round of the tournament.
Men’s Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that stands out to me in the match betting on Saturday with the prices pretty much looking about right, so we have to head to the side markets for a bet where one comes along in the night session clash on Louis Armstrong Stadium as the home hope Brandon Nakashima takes on the Italian star Jannik Sinner.
Nakashima did us a good turn in the previous round when he took care of Grigor Dimitrov and I think he merits more respect here than the 4.5 game handicap is giving him. I always think Sinner looks a little awkward on a fast hardcourt and I think the same about him in a Grand Slam too and while I would expect him to win this I’m not sure it will be all one way traffic. Nakashima served well against Dimitrov and a similar performance will give him every chance here. The night conditions might slow the pace of the Sinner strike so this looks like turning into a right battle, one which the American can give as good as he gets in.
Women’s Betting
The same situation applies in the women’s draw where the shorter priced favourites aren’t really opposable and the longer priced favourites are against oppponents whose odds are on the short side. That again leads us to the side markets where I like over 21.5 games in the match between Jule Niemeier and Qinwen Zheng.
Niemeier is looking to back up her run to the last eight at Wimbledon and is on the way to achieving that here but she’s up against an opponent who herself is looking good having dumped Jelena Ostapenko out in the opening round. These two are clean hitters of the ball and I don’t think it is going to take too much for this one to turn into a pretty intense battle. Whether it is via a close set in a straight sets match or a three set game I expect over 21.5 games here.
