Wimbledon 2024 – Day 7 Tips and Betting Preview

The second week of Wimbledon gets underway on Sunday as the tournament plays on the middle Sunday for the second year in succession with both singles draws continuing on the three main courts at SW19.

The women’s draw is still reeling from the loss of the number one seed on Saturday and the men’s equivalent, Jannik Sinner, will be aiming to avoid going the same way when he returns to court on Sunday on a day where the action looks very tasty.

Centre Court

We have a good schedule on the main Centre Court on Sunday and it begins with the only men’s match to take place on it over the course of the day as the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz looks to continue his title defence into the quarter final. If that is to happen he needs to get the better of Ugo Humbert. It is all about the women for the rest of the day with the sole remaining British singles player left in the tournament up when Emma Raducanu takes on the unseeded Lulu Sun. When they are done Coco Gauff will look to make the last eight at Wimbledon for the first time in her career. Her fellow American player Emma Navarro stands in her way.

Court 1

There is actually a case to be made that the schedule over on Court 1 on Sunday is even better because the three matches on show all contain seeded players. We begin with the French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini going up against the American ace Madison Keys. When they are done another Italian steps onto the court as the number one seed Jannik Sinner looks to make it through to a third Grand Slam quarter final of the season when he takes on Ben Shelton. The last game of the day on this court sees Grigor Dimitrov looking to extend his positive grass court record when he takes on Daniil Medvedev in another tasty looking contest.

Court 2

There are just the two other singles matches on show over the course of the day on Sunday and they both come from Court 2 where the four players in action will be hoping that the weather plays ball and they get their match completed. We begin with Paula Badosa taking on the Bad Homburg finalist Donna Vekic and then when they are done the Queens champion Tommy Paul will look to make the quarter finals for a second London event in succession when he takes on the former Wimbledon semi-finalist Roberto Bautista Agut.

Betting

There is just the one bet that I like on Sunday on a day where there are a lot of warm favourites who should oblige with the comfort that the oddsmakers expect them to. The one match which is more of a pick ‘em comes in the clash between Paula Badosa and Donna Vekic on Court 2 and I expect this one to be a very tight and tense affair. Both women will step onto court knowing that they are not going to see another seeded player until the semi-final so there is a huge chance to go deep into this tournament.

That in itself will create tension but also the big hitting game that both have will do that too. These two women both went to a deciding set in epic matches in the last round and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if a first meeting between the pair went the same way here. The first set of both of their matches in the last round went to a tiebreak and if this one does similar then we could easily get a 22.5 game line covered in two sets. Whether we need two sets or three this just has a close throughout look about it and I’m happy to be on the over.
