The Austrian Darts Open draws to a close on Sunday as the tournament is played down from the last 16 stage to the final on what is a crazy day of darts. The last day of a European Tour event is often tough on the players but with the heat playing a massive part in Vienna this could be one of the hardest days they have had.
As ever with these tournaments time restrictions will deny us the opportunity to preview the very latter stages of this event but we can certainly look at the last 16 matches in the hope of finding some winning bets.
Early Matches
Michael van Gerwen gets the day off to a good start when he is first onto the stage. He faces Vincent van der Meer in what will be the biggest day in the career for the more unknown of the two Dutchmen. Two qualifiers meet after them when Jamie Bain takes on Martin Schindler. Benito van de Pas then goes up against Daryl Gurney before Simon Whitlock and Cristo Reyes do battle.
Later Matches
Two more qualifiers get the second half of the afternoon underway when Kim Viljanen, the shock conqueror of Peter Wright in the first round, goes up against Chris Dobey who took care of Stephen Bunting. Kim Huybrechts then faces Joe Cullen before Jelle Klaasen plays Michael Smith and then Mensur Suljovic and Mervyn King round off the afternoon.

Betting
I’m going to go with two in this round of matches. Jamie Bain has surprised many to make it to this stage of the tournament but he was fortunate to run into Alan Norris on one of his poor doubling days in the previous round. Norris missed 14 darts at a double in that match which is insane and I’m not convinced the fast improving Martin Schindler will butcher as many chances here. Schindler almost averaged a ton in demolishing Ian White on Saturday and if he can repeat that or get anywhere near it he will be a big price here. His extra stage experience could be a massive advantage.
Kim Huybrechts and Joe Cullen seem to like playing out close matches. Their last five have either gone the distance or been 6-4 and there is nothing to suggest their match on Sunday will not be close as both are playing pretty well at the minute. Over 9.5 legs is 19/20 and that looks a perfectly fair price given their recent history.
