It is a busy day at the Players Championship Finals on Saturday as the second and third rounds of the tournament take place inside the tent at Butlin’s in Minehead. We begin Saturday with 32 men and at the end of it just eight will remain.
The opening day of the tournament saw shocks galore with the likes of Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Raymond Barneveld all exiting the event at the earliest opportunity. That leaves us with a number of lower ranked players on the main stage.
As ever in these weekend events time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview both rounds on Saturday so we will cover the last 32 which takes place in the afternoon here but will not be able to do the last 16 which is the evening session.
Main Stage
Dave Chisnall gets the action underway on the main stage. He takes on William O’Connor before one of the matches of the afternoon which sees Mensur Suljovic going up against Stephen Bunting. Daryl Gurney follows them when he faces Robbie Green. Rob Cross is up fourth in the afternoon. He faces the youngster Steve Lennon while Mickey Mansell meets Jermaine Wattimena. The final two matches of the afternoon sees Michael van Gerwen taking on Steve West and Steve Hine playing Peter Jacques.
Board Two
There is a tasty looking match to get things going on board two when Darren Webster faces Mervyn King. Chris Dobey and Robert Thornton follow them before the all-Welsh battle between Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price. Richard North meets Adrian Lewis after that before what could be a battle of attrition when Ron Meulenkamp faces Justin Pipe. Jelle Klaasen then faces Steve Beaton before Jamie Caven plays James Wade. The final two matches sees Jan Dekker going up against Simon Whitlock and Ian White playing John Henderson.

Betting
I’m going with a couple of bets in the last 32. Darren Webster had a solid win on Friday and he has good memories of this tournament having made the semi-final 12 months ago where he led Michael van Gerwen 6-0 before the occasion caught up with him. He takes on a Mervyn King who really struggles to put performances together back to back these days. He was a little fortunate to come through on Friday and with the extra confidence Webster has right now I’m with him.
I took Chris Dobey on Friday and he won and I see no reason to desert him on Saturday either. He takes on Robert Thornton who is another who is struggling to back up good results at the minute. Thornton can be brilliant and he can be awful but I liked the poise of Dobey in his win over Kim Huybrechts and his timing was very good too. At odds against he looks like a decent bet to me.
