The Scottish Open has finally made its way down to the one table set up now that we are at the semi-final stage of the event and we should have two decent matches to enjoy inside the Emirates Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Three of the best players in the world have made their way into the best of 11 frames matches with the other man one of the form horses from the campaign so the day is nicely set up.

Afternoon Session
Cao Yupeng vs Judd Trump
The first semi-final is a repeat of the European Masters semi when Cao Yupeng takes on Judd Trump for a place in the final. Trump won that match in Belgium 6-1 but this has been an even bigger breakthrough week for the Chinese player and he’ll fancy his chances here.
Yupeng has made a 147 this week and he has seen off some decent players along the way to this semi-final. He beat Ricky Walden in the quarter final which was a good effort and he also has wins over Andrew Higginson and Tom Ford.
Trump has been in good touch himself this week. He has taken care of Stephen Maguire, Sam Craigie and Michael Holt among others and done so with a destruction of scoring combined with a little bit of good fortune which has done them no harm.
I’m finding it hard to find a bet here. From a spectacle point of view I hope Cao can play well and keep it close but there is always the chance Trump gets ahead and stays ahead. I’ll just watch this one.
Evening Session
Neil Robertson vs John Higgins
Two truly class acts will do battle in the second of the semi-finals when Neil Robertson takes on the home hero John Higgins for a place in the final in what has all the makings of a fantastic contest.
Both these men have played well in this tournament. Robertson has come through a favourable draw but he has done it with a barrage of big breaks including eight centuries, three of which came against Guodong in the quarter final.
Higgins has been equally as good. He has only dropped two frames and goes into this match off the back of whitewashing Ronnie O’Sullivan and while tiredness caught up with the Rocket in that match you can’t take away how well Higgins played. He also made three tons in the match.
With both these men playing well we should be set up for a cracking semi-final here. I don’t think we are going to see a runaway winner. There is plenty at stake for both men and neither are showing signs of fatigue or anything like that. Given the quality of the pair I really think we’ll see more than 9.5 frames before this is done.
Tips
Back N.Robertson vs J.Higgins – Over 9.5 frames for a 4/10 stake at 2.20 with William Hill
