2017 Wimbledon Tennis – Day 6 Betting Preview

The first week of Wimbledon finishes on Saturday and by the end of the day we will know the 16 players who will compete for the men’s and women’s trophies in the second week of the third Grand Slam of the year.

Among the star names in action on Saturday are Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Angelique Kerber and Svetlana Kuznetsova so the quality should be high once again heading into the rest day.

Day 5 Recap

It was a day where once again the big names made it through safely. Andy Murray was taken to four sets but he came through while Rafael Nadal was untroubled too. In the women’s draw Jo Konta, Jelena Ostapenko and Simona Halep all progressed without dropping a set.

Once again it was another frustrating day for us betting wise. Camila Giorgi served for both sets against Ostapenko at 5-3 and lost them both 7-5 while Heather Watson was outlasted by Victoria Azarenka despite taking the first set.

Centre Court

Agnieszka Radwanska has the chance to open up play on Centre Court on Saturday. She takes on the French Open semi-finalist Timea Bacsinszky before Ernests Gulbis looks to cause a major shock when he goes up against Novak Djokovic. The action concludes with what should be a very watchable match between Mischa Zverev and Roger Federer where a lot of serve and volley play should take place.

Court 1

Not for the first time this week Milos Raonic gets us going on the other show court. He faces Albert Ramos-Vinolas before Eastbourne finalist Caroline Wozniacki is back on court. Her opponent is Anett Kontaveit and then the action is rounded off with Dominic Thiem playing Jared Donaldson.

Court 2

We get underway on this court with Sorana Cirstea taking on the former finalist Garbine Muguruza before Sam Querrey and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga return to conclude their match which began on Friday and is deep into a final set. World number one Angelique Kerber is next on court against Shelby Rogers before Alexander Zverev takes on the surprise package of Sebastian Ofner.

Court 3

Grigor Dimitrov opens up play on Court 3 when he goes up against Dudi Sela before the heavy hitting Coco Vandeweghe is on court. She faces Alison Riske with David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych meeting in a tasty looking conclusion to the week on this court.

Best of the Rest

It is mostly junior and doubles action around the grounds on Saturday but there is the odd singles match too. Gael Monfils and Svetlana Kuznetsova are the seeded players on show away from the big courts.

Men’s Betting

I am going with just the one bet in the men’s draw on Saturday. Dominic Thiem is expected to come past Jared Donaldson on Court 1 and while I wouldn’t disagree with that I don’t think he will come through as easily as the odds suggest. Thiem has dropped a set to Gilles Simon in this tournament and I fancy Donaldson can run him close. The American was competitive against Thiem when the two met in their only other previous meeting which was on clay but this surface favours Donaldson more and I can see there being more than three sets before this one is decided.

Women’s Betting

I’m also going with just the one in the women’s draw too where Shelby Rogers is being underrated a bit too much against Angelique Kerber. I accept Kerber is the favourite in this match but I’m not convinced she is going to run away with it. Rogers has a big hitting game and if she can expose Kerber’s movement she can stay close to the under pressure German if not get the better of her. Rogers beat a left hander in the previous round so she will be used to all the angles and things so the 5.5 games she is getting is a bit too much.
