2017 World Grand Prix Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix is a two session day of action at the Guild Hall in Preston on Tuesday. The first round of the tournament continues with eight more matches including some top names on what should be an excellent day of snooker action.

All eyes will be on the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and the defending champion Shaun Murphy as they get their campaigns underway on a busy day packed with quality.

Afternoon Session

The action on the main table begins with the former world champion and German Masters semi-finalist Stuart Bingham taking on Ryan Day before the second match under the spotlights sees Murphy begin the defence of his title when he takes on Michael Holt.

On the other table the Northern Ireland Open winner Mark King goes up against a Stephen Maguire who will be looking to arrest his slide down the rankings. Good friends and top 16ers Mark Williams and Joe Perry round off the session.

Evening Session

Some big names come out in the evening session. The main table action begins with Ronnie O’Sullivan taking on the top class Chinese youngster Yan Bingtao who Ronnie clearly rates judging by his punditry last week. Marco Fu and Jamie Jones follow them.

The outside table begins with the Indian Open champion Anthony McGill taking on the heavily underrated Dave Gilbert before the German Masters runner-up Ali Carter takes on the other dangerous Chinese youngster in the field in the form of Zhou Yuelong.

Betting

I’m going with a couple of bets across Tuesday’s action with one bet coming from each session. In the afternoon I like Ryan Day against Stuart Bingham. Bingham made the semi-final in Berlin over the weekend but he looked awful both in getting there and again when he was there and he will need to have upped his game massively to be competitive here.

In contrast Ryan Day looked in good order in Berlin and the only thing he did wrong was miss a brown to go 3-2 up on Martin Gould in the quarter final. If he can continue playing like that, and with the Welsh Open next week I would expect him to have put plenty of work in, then I think he can take care of an out of sorts Bingham for whom a few days at home with the new little un probably wouldn’t be too bad a consolation for.

In the evening session I’m keen to take on Anthony McGill. McGill did well in the Championship League last month but in proper tournaments he has offered little since he won the Indian Open in July. David Gilbert looked to be cueing it lovely in Berlin. He took care of Marco Fu in the first round there and should have beaten Bingham and would have done had a nasty previous record not got into his head.

Gilbert just looks to be slipping into form nicely at the minute and with that in mind odds against is juicy enough on him given that this one would only ever be 50/50 were both playing well.
