2018-19 Premier League – Saturday 11th August Matches Betting Preview

The opening weekend in the Premier League sees six more matches taking place on Saturday as the division gets going in full after the first match of the campaign on Friday night when Manchester United saw off Leicester City.

Much has changed in the top flight but one thing that hasn’t is the fact that we have three kick off times on Saturday. We have to wait until Sunday to see the champions but we get to see the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea beginning their challenge.

Early Kick Off

The day begins at St James’ Park where we will get to see if Newcastle are significantly stronger with their recruitment over the summer when they take on a Tottenham side for whom there are a few concerns given that they failed to sign anyone in the transfer window. Tottenham also had a number of players involved in the World Cup right up until the end of the tournament so Newcastle could be getting them at the right time.

3pm Matches

There are four matches in the usual 3pm slot with two of the three promoted sides beginning their first season back in the top flight. Bournemouth play host to one of them when Cardiff City are the visitors to the Vitality Stadium while Fulham welcome Crystal Palace to Craven Cottage. Chelsea get their season underway with a fairly lengthy trip to face Huddersfield Town with the other match seeing Watford hosting Brighton at Vicarage Road.

Late Game

All eyes will be on Molineux in the late match to see if big spending Wolves can adjust to life back in the Premier League when they take on an Everton side who were pretty active themselves in the transfer market on deadline day. Marco Silva will take charge of Everton for the first time in the match and it will be interest to see how their style changes under him compared to how they were under Sam Allardyce.

Betting

I’m going with the promoted sides on Saturday. I really expect Fulham to do well this season with the spending they have done in the summer and I think the can ride the high wave they will be on as they prepare for their first game back in the top flight. Crystal Palace have made a few signings themselves in the summer but how much stronger they look I’m not sure. They still look way too reliant on Wilfried Zaha for my liking. Fulham have many more options in their ranks and I think one of them can nudge them out on top in this one.

Marco Silva has a big reputation but both at Hull City and Watford his away record was average and I’m not convinced his Everton side will begin life on the road much better. To be fair to Everton they are probably getting Wolves at a bad time. Wolves will still be on a high and they will be right up for this one I’m sure. They look a very good side as well. Nuno Espirito Santo has added real quality to his ranks in the summer and I think they have enough in them to get the better of Everton here.
