2018 World Grand Prix Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of the World Grand Prix sees two sessions of play taking place inside the Guild Hall in Preston as a load of big names make their bow into the tournament which sees the top 32 players of the season doing battle.

Monday evening saw Ronnie O’Sullivan make it safely through and on Tuesday we will see Mark Allen, John Higgins, Neil Robertson, Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy among others all begin their campaign to win the title.

Afternoon Session

The Masters champion Mark Allen is the first man to grace the TV table in the afternoon session. He faces a potentially tricky challenge against the German Masters quarter finalist Xiao Guodong, who will be out to prove himself having lost from 4-0 up in that tournament. A real clash of the titans comes in the second match when John Higgins meets Ali Carter in what looks like a juicy battle.

The other table has a couple of good matches on it in the afternoon session too. Our pre-tournament pick Stephen Maguire is first up against Li Hang before Joe Perry takes on the German Masters finalist Graeme Dott in what looks like a solid contest.

Evening Session

Judd Trump will be on the TV table first in the evening session. He faces the perfectly capable Michael White in a match which has all the makings of a banana skin for the European Masters winner. Shaun Murphy faces Ricky Walden in the final match of the day on the main table and that looks a juicy battle too.

Anthony McGill will be the first seeded player out on the other table when he takes on the man who is probably still wondering how he isn’t the Scottish Open champion in Cao Yupeng. The man who beat him to that title, Neil Robertson, faces Dave Gilbert in the other match in the session.

Betting

After nailing a nice punt on Monday evening I’m going to follow it up with just the one bet on Tuesday. It comes in the evening session where I think Cao Yupeng is worth backing against an Anthony McGill who is stuttering somewhat at the minute.

In recent tournaments McGill has laboured past Thor Chuan Leong and lost to Jimmy White, Peter Ebdon, Hossein Vafaei and Li Yuan so he is not on top form. Cao made the semi-finals over this distance in Romania earlier in the season and much of his run to the Scottish Open final was also first to four. He showed in both tournaments that he can score well and he can mix it in the tactical department. At odds against he looks the bet here.

Tips

Back C.Yupeng to beat A.McGill for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with 888sport
