2019-20 Big Bash League – Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

We have another double header of action in the Big Bash League on Sunday, one which begins at a new venue for the competition as the Sydney Sixers host the Adelaide Strikers at the International Sports Stadium in Coffs Harbour.

These two sides have started the season very strongly and begin this match safely in the top four so whoever comes out on top will intensify their chances of a high up postseason spot. The losers will still be in good shape but won’t want a losing run to develop.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers are on something of a role at the minute, even if their squad is getting more and more stretched. They have won their last three matches, albeit one came in a super over, and are climbing the table accordingly. They have pretty much passed up home advantage in this game but if they continue their form and positivity they are still going to be tough to beat even allowing for the fact that this is near enough a neutral venue.

I’ve been saying it for a while but if the Sixers are going to win this title then they are probably going to have to max out with the bat. I say that because their batting order looks very light and while all-rounders can do the job here and there, it is rare a good long-term game plan. One area where they are nicely stocked is with the ball and they have certainly shown that in this tournament to this stage.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers suffered their first defeat of the campaign last time out and so they will be eager to get back to winning ways in this match. There is no massive shame in losing to the Sydney Thunder, especially in a close match, but they won’t want to let things drift and start getting into the wrong habits. Generally the Strikers go very well in the regular season so we probably shouldn’t expect them to wilt just yet.

By and large the Strikers have gone well with the bat but they couldn’t quite get over the line in the final couple of overs on New Year’s Eve. They’ve had a few days to work out what is what though and I expect a bounce back sort of reaction from them here, especially after their bowling got a bit of a bloody nose in that game. A couple of key bowlers weren’t at their best in that match and they’ll be out to prove a point here.

Team News

The Sydney Sixers will be without their captain Moises Henriques for this match as his wife is due to give birth. Justin Avendano comes in for him while Josh Hazlewood will be in the magenta for the first time since the third season of the Big Bash. He’s in for Mickey Edwards.

The Adelaide Strikers also welcome an Australian international back into their ranks for this match with Michael Neser returning. Liam O’Connor is also back with Wes Agar and Harry Nielsen the two men who won’t be involved.

Betting

Betting on this match is not all that easy given that this ground has never been used in the Big Bash before. We don’t really know much about the venue other than it holds a lot of Rugby League matches and it is a sports facility so it isn’t going to have the biggest outfield in all directions you wouldn’t think. I’m actually a little surprised we’ve got sixes lines for this match and even though these aren’t the biggest hitting sides in the world I expect the ropes to be cleared.

Usually when the Big Bash is taken around the country it is to market the product so I would be surprised if a terrible wicket has been allowed to be put to use in this match. There have to be short boundaries somewhere on this ground and I fancy between the players who are on show here, we will see them cleared on at least nine occasions if not a few more on top of that.
