The first complete round of Premier League matches since the return to action gets underway on Friday evening, and with all 10 fixtures in this match day all at different times, the focus on every match will be intense.
We have two entertaining and intriguing games to keep us entertained on Friday evening, one which will have an impact at the bottom of the table, and the other which sees two of the heavyweights of the division battling it out.
Norwich City vs Southampton (18.00)
The opening match of the night comes from Carrow Road and is already heading towards must-win territory for the hosts Norwich City, as they host a Southampton side who aren’t completely safe themselves but shouldn’t be in any real danger unless they suddenly start tanking.
It will be interesting to see if Norwich modify their style slightly in this match. I say that because in front of crowds they take it upon themselves to open themselves up and play expansive football but without that scrutiny from the stands there is the chance to be a little more pragmatic. I suspect they won’t but it is an interesting subplot. The one thing we do know is that they have goals in them so if they can keep things tight. Southampton might be a side who benefit from behind closed doors when they play at home. Their home form has been a shambles for a few seasons so not having a crowd could help that. They have been very good away from home this season though so they will fancy their chances here.
I’m not going to bet on this match. I don’t think either team have a significant enough advantage and both have their vulnerabilities. My feeling is that there will be goals in this match but I’m acutely aware that in the leagues that have restarted so far teams generally need a game to get rid of the rust so that isn’t ideal either. I’ll sit this one out and wait for better opportunities.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United (20.15)
The big match of the night sees Jose Mourinho taking on his former side when he takes his Tottenham Hotspur team into battle against a Manchester United team who were beginning to make one or two strides before lockdown and whom plenty are expected of coming out of it.
If there were two clubs who needed the break it was probably these two. Tottenham definitely needed it because their form was ordinary and they had plenty of injuries while United were also missing some star names, although they were coping much better without them it has to be said. Nevertheless, getting the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford back, combined with the form of Bruno Fernandes, United look a strong force.
Tottenham will be buoyed by having Harry Kane back there’s no doubt about that but I still have concerns over their midfield and I’m not convinced they are all that defensively. I think United might finish the season strongly with some key players back and if there is a winner of this one, I fancy the likes of Pogba and Fernandes can ensure it is them.
