2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – West Brom vs Swansea Tips and Betting Preview

Someone’s 0 has got to go in the Championship on Sunday afternoon when the leaders going into the weekend, West Bromwich Albion, put their unbeaten home record on the line against a Swansea City side who have not lost on their travels this season.

The Welsh outfit have dropped out of the top six in the last couple of weeks but a win here will catapult them back into it, while the Baggies will regain top spot should they come out on top in this matchup.

West Bromwich Albion

The Baggies have been a joy to watch under Slaven Bilic this season and even this early in the piece you would think only themselves can deny them a return to the Premier League. This will be a decent test of their promotion credentials however against a side who are tough to beat and who can be dangerous if you allow them to be. If there has been a criticism of West Brom this season then it comes in the form of the goals they have leaked at home.

West Brom head into this match off the back of five successive wins, conceding just two goals in that time, and are beginning to look very strong indeed. We’re approaching a busy part of the season now so another win to go into it would be just the ticket. If they are going to get that they just need to be careful that they don’t leave the back door open too much as already Charlton and Barnsley have scored twice here.

Swansea City

Swansea City have a wonderful record on their travels this season, but they have just come off the top of their best form in recent weeks and things don’t get a great deal easier for them in this match it has to be said. The Swans haven’t won any of their last four matches and it isn’t as though they have had a particularly tough fixture list in that time either so they are going to need something of an improvement to get anything here.

Although they made an impressive start to the season, one concern for Swansea has been scoring goals. Their total of 24 this term is the lowest in the top half of the table and that might need to be addressed in January if they are going to maintain a push for the top six. Sides who are hard to beat can go a long way in this division though, as we’ve seen with Sheffield United and Huddersfield in recent seasons so they have that on their side.

Team News

Chris Brunt is back in contention for West Brom as he has recovered from a calf injury. Rekeem Harper is a doubt with an issue with his tooth but other than that Slaven Bilic has a clean bill of health in his squad.

Swansea City are expected to be able to call on the services of Nathan Dyer but there is no place in the squad for Wayne Routledge, who is suffering from a calf issue. Aldo Kalulu could be involved after returning from an ankle injury.

Betting

A month or so ago when Swansea were tough to beat with clean sheets for fun this could have been a tricky assignment for West Bromwich Albion but the Welsh outfit are no longer as tight at the back but they are still struggling to find the back of the net themselves. I don’t think many sides are going to beat the Baggies without scoring goals so you have to fear for Steve Cooper’s men here.

It is true that West Brom haven’t been as tight as one would like on their own patch this season but they have only conceded two goals in their last five matches now so it might be that Bilic has instilled a good discipline in his defenders at long last. West Brom are the top scorers in the league and Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira are among the best players in the division. I’ll take the home side here.
