The second day of the BNP Paribas Open out in Indian Wells sees the first round of the tournament conclude and by the end of it we will know the line up for the last 64 of the event ahead of the big names joining the fray.
The seeds might not join proceedings until Saturday but there are still some juicy looking match ups on the card on Friday with some age old faded forces looking to get themselves back in among the elite parts of the game.
Stadium 1
Two women’s matches get things underway on the main stadium court and then when they are concluded an all-American men’s match takes place as Taylor Fritz takes on Steve Johnson. Another women’s match begins the evening session but it is a second men’s match which rounds off the action on this court. Another American is in action as Frances Tiafoe goes up against Nicolas Jarry to conclude the day’s play.
Stadium 2
This is the court the pick of the action is on. It begins with Tomas Berdych taking on Feliciano Lopez in a match which certainly wouldn’t have been a first round match a few years ago. Dan Evans then goes up against Stan Wawrinka in the second match of the day. The men’s action on this court concludes in the night session when Mackezie McDonald goes up against Joao Sousa for a place in the second round of the tournament.
Stadium 3
Just the one match takes place on the third court on Friday when a qualifier battles a wildcard as Tatsuma Ito goes up against Jared Donaldson in a match where the prize for the winner is a clash against the second favourite to win the tournament in the form of Rafael Nadal. That is likely to add to the tension and the desire to win.
Best of the Rest
Plenty of men’s matches take place around the grounds on Friday with Donald Young, Dusan Lajovic, Taro Daniel, Andreas Seppi, Ryan Harrison and Ernests Gulbis among the men taking to the many courts around the grounds out in Indian Wells on Friday. There is also a bunch of matches in the doubles event as well.

Betting
I’ll take a couple of bets over the course of the night with Jared Donaldson the first of those. He should improve with every run out he has after a lengthy injury lay off and I fancy he will get the better of the Japanese player Tatsuma Ito. Ito has done well to qualify around here but the draw worked out fairly well for him and in truth he didn’t beat a whole lot. Both these men have had recent fitness issues but I believe when fit Donaldson is the better of the two men and inspired by the home crowds he can show that here.
Mikhail Kukushkin went all the way to the final in Marseille recently and he looks decent enough value to see off a Filip Krajinovic who has faded quite alarmingly over the last few months. To be fair to the Serb, he has done well to qualify for this tournament but I expect the confident Kazakh to keep up his good form and deny the man who once made the Paris final. He lost in the first round of his last four Masters 1000 events though and I expect him to do the same here.
