2019 Austrian Darts Championship – Last 32 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the last 32 day in the inaugural Austrian Darts Championship on Saturday with all 16 matches being played out across the two sessions of play out in Vienna, on a day where the big names take to the stage for the first time this week.

That means the crowds will get to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Daryl Gurney and their home hero Mensur Suljovic for the first time this weekend and they make up a decent enough schedule.

Afternoon Session

The action begins on Saturday with Steve Beaton taking on the former BDO number one James Wilson before two experienced players battle it out when Simon Whitlock meets Vincent van der Voort. Gerwyn Price is up third on the court when he faces the suddenly back in form Brendan Dolan before we are taken to the interval by Dave Chisnall. He takes on Dietmar Burger in what should be a one-sided match.

Ricky Evans is the seeded player bringing us out of the break. He meets the former world finalist Kirk Shepherd before three good quality players take to the stage one after the other as Michael Smith faces Cameron Menzies before Ian White meets the local youngster Rusty-Jake Rodriguez. The session concludes with Adrian Lewis looking to return to form when he goes up against Christian Bunse.

Evening Session

The UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall is first up on the main stage in the evening session on Saturday. He faces Keegan Brown before Daryl Gurney takes centre stage. He plays the Austrian youngster Rowby-John Rodriguez for a place in the last 16. Jonny Clayton is then up against Mike De Decker before potentially the match of the round which sees Peter Wright facing Dimitri Van den Bergh.

It is the home man Mensur Suljovic who will take us out of the break when he faces up against Adam Gawlas before a couple of youngsters battle it out as Joe Cullen takes on Luke Humphries. Michael van Gerwen and Kyle Anderson met in the opening round in Auckland last week and they will repeat that in the penultimate match of the night on Saturday before Darren Webster faces off with Jeffrey de Zwaan to close off the show.

Betting

I’ll go with just the one bet on Saturday and it comes in the evening session where I think Dimitri Van den Bergh is a fair slice of value to see off Peter Wright. We’ve not really known what we are going to get from Wright this season. For a lot of the year he was pretty cold but when around the time of the Matchplay he caught fire only to come up short. I still have doubts over which Wright we will get.

That is especially the case this weekend where he is coming back from New Zealand and as such I think the talented Belgian could well turn him over. We know Van den Bergh fears nobody on the stage and being the fresher man he could have a significant advantage going into this one. You would think it would be close on a level playing field but there’s enough to think DVDB holds a few more of the aces at a nice price.
