It is the final day of action in the Danish Darts Open on Sunday with 16 men looking to go deep and scoop a European Tour event as we build up towards major season which is looming large on the horizon in the darting landscape.
As always in European Tour events we were treated to some wonderful darts on Saturday, with shocks, surprises and quality performances mixed into a good day of action. There is no reason to expect any different on Sunday. Once again time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the evening session but we can cover the afternoon here.
First Four Matches
This whole session looks to be competitive but that is certainly the case with the opening match which sees Gerwyn Price taking on Stephen Bunting, the latter threatening a return to his very best form. Peter Wright is then in action when he meets Joe Cullen who could do with a big day. Kirk Shepherd pulled off one surprise on Saturday and he’ll be looking for another on Sunday when he meets Chris Dobey and then we go to the interval with Daryl Gurney facing the unheralded Jose de Sousa.
Later Four Matches
There are three really juicy clashes to get the second half of the afternoon underway. James Wade could be considered the favourite for this title now but he will not have an easy path past Jonny Clayton. Adrian Lewis then meets Simon Whitlock in a match between two men who are seasoned campaigners at this level before the tie of the round which sees Mensur Suljovic continuing his title defence against Dave Chisnall. The final match of the last 16 sees the number one seed Ian White tussling with Jermaine Wattimena.
Betting
The prices are largely right throughout the card in this session so rather than look for value it is all about looking for a winner here. I guess there will be shocks but the most likely chances would all be taking on top level players which isn’t often the best strategy so with that in mind I’ll play just the one bet.
I took Mensur Suljovic on in the last round and he always came up short against Gabriel Clemens with only really big stage experience getting the Austrian over the line in a deciding leg but he doesn’t have that advantage on Dave Chisnall here so I think the former Champions League winner is worth going against here. Chisnall averaged the best part of a ton in getting rid of Ratajski in the last round and if he has that form with him here he’ll be a dangerous customer to stop. I mentioned on Saturday that Suljovic’s recent European record isn’t the best. Chisnall can ensure it stays that way here.
