The European Darts Open draws to a close on Sunday as the remainder of the first European Tour event of the year takes place out in Leverkusen. There are a number of big names still left in to battle for the trophy so we should be set for an exciting conclusion.
The last 16 of the event takes place in the afternoon and then the quarter finals onwards are sorted out in the evening session. As ever time restrictions will deny us the chance to write a preview for the evening but this season I’ll flag anything up on our Twitter feed if there is a bet I like. We’ll go through the last 16 though.
First Four Matches
The last 16 is played out in draw order which means that Michael van Gerwen is first up on Sunday. He takes on his fellow Dutchman and the man likely to be his World Cup partner in a couple of months in the form of Jermaine Wattimena before the Polish ace Krzysztof Ratajski goes up against Gerwyn Price. Mensur Suljovic then meets Joe Cullen before the tie of the round takes us into the interval as James Wade takes on the form man Dave Chisnall.
Later Four Matches
The second half of the afternoon begins with what looks like a competitive contest between Justin Pipe and Darren Webster before Rob Cross looks to make progress in the tournament. We hope that he doesn’t though because he’s up against our one remaining outright in Jonny Clayton. The afternoon concludes with a couple of decent looking matches as Dimitri Van den Bergh takes on Daryl Gurney and Peter Wright goes up against Ross Smith.

Betting
There is just one bet for me on Sunday afternoon and it comes in the penultimate match of the session where Daryl Gurney takes on Dimitri Van den Bergh in what should be a high quality clash between two men who are extremely comfortable on the big stage and who will both be in Premier League action later in the week.
I like the Belgian player here. He produced a stunning performance to see off Adrian Lewis on Saturday evening and a repeat of that has him with every chance against Gurney, who is a little too hit or miss for my liking. Even if Gurney appears at his best Van den Bergh is good enough to take him out but based on what we’ve seen on the first two nights I’m happy to be with the Belgian in this one.
Tips
Back D.Van den Bergh to beat D.Gurney for a 4/10 stake at 2.25 with Boylesports
