The seeded players come into the European Darts Open on Saturday when the last 32 is played out across two sessions of action out in Leverkusen. Places in the final day of the opening European Tour event of the year are up for grabs on a competitive looking day.
That means that the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Michael Smith are all on our streams across the two sessions of play on Saturday as the early running in the race to qualify for the European Championship begins.
Afternoon Session
The action gets underway when Darren Webster takes to the stage to face the unheralded Czech player Pavel Jirkal who has done well to reach this stage. James Wade has an early tee time on Saturday as he is second on stage to face Wesley Plaisier before two top guns meet when Ian White faces Justin Pipe. We head into the break with the Grand Slam champion Gerwyn Price going up against Scott Taylor.
Dave Chisnall has been in fine form on the floor and he gets the darts back underway after the interval when he goes up against Ted Evetts before the first of our outright picks takes to the stage when Jonny Clayton meets Adam Hunt. The final two matches of the afternoon both look quality affairs as Michael Smith goes up against the Polish star Krzysztof Ratajski and Players Championship winner Daryl Gurney meets Jeffrey de Zwaan.
Evening Session
The evening session gets going with another classic looking contest as our other outright pick, Adrian Lewis, takes on the confident and classy Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh before Glen Durrant looks to progress in his first European Tour event. He faces the machine gun like Jermaine Wattimena before Joe Cullen takes on Vincent van der Voort. There will be plenty of needle to take us to the halfway mark of the evening as Michael van Gerwen meets Mervyn King in a match where no love is lost.
After the break the top names keep on coming with former world champions colliding when Rob Cross takes on Steve Beaton before Mensur Suljovic is up on stage. He faces Matthew Dennant before Simon Whitlock takes to the stage to take on a Ross Smith who might just be going under the radar. The last 32 concludes with arguably the pick of the matches as Peter Wright takes on Kim Huybrechts in a real heavyweight showdown.

Betting
You can make a case for a few outsiders over the course of the day with Jeffrey de Zwaan, Krzysztof Ratajski, Kim Huybrechts and Mervyn King all having live shots at causing pretty big upsets but given how early in the campaign it is I’m going to play safely and stick with just the one bet which comes deep into the evening.
Simon Whitlock has offered little so far this year. After his disappointment at missing out on the Premier League, he has barely won a match on the floor and while his run to the last 16 of the UK Open looks good he could well have been beaten long before he was. Ross Smith made the quarter final of that competition where he lost to the eventual champion Nathan Aspinall but he followed that up with a solid effort on the floor and looked in decent order in the first round here on Friday. I think he’s value at 6/5.
