2019 French Open Tennis – Day 8 Betting Preview

The second week of the French Open gets going on Sunday when some of the biggest names in the sport take to the clay courts inside Roland Garros once again with places in the quarter finals of the second Grand Slam of the year on the line.

We are still waiting for the truly big names to be tested in the men’s draw and that might start to happen on Sunday now we are into the last 16. The women’s draw is getting more and more interesting and is set to continue doing that on Sunday.

Day 7 Recap

Not for the first time this week Novak Djokovic make it through in straight sets on Saturday but we lost two leading names in the women’s draw. Naomi Osaka was the first one to fall when she lost to Katerina Siniakova before Serena Wiliams exited the competition when Sofia Kenin produced the biggest result of her career. Elsewhere there were wins for Simona Halep, Juan Martin del Potro, Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev.

It was a decent enough day for us betting wise with two wins from three and only being 0.5 games out of a full house. Dusan Lajovic and Sofia Kenin safely brought in their handicaps to give us another profit on the day and start to get us back above evens for the tournament heading into the second week of the event.

Philippe Chatrier Court

We only have two courts left with singles action on them and on the main court the play begins with Petra Martic going up against a Kaia Kanepi who seems to raise her game for the major tournaments. The two legends follow in the next two matches. They begin with Leonardo Mayer taking on Roger Federer before Juan Londero goes up against the defending champion Rafael Nadal. The last match on the main court sees Sloane Stephens meeting Garbine Muguruza.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

It is the turn of Marketa Vondrousova and Anastasija Sevastova to open the show on the second court before the British star Jo Konta will bid for a quarter final spot when she meets previous foe Donna Vekic. The men then take centre stage on this court when a real good looking clash takes place between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Stan Wawrinka. Benoit Paire will then look to entertain the home crowds when he faces off against the Japanese star Kei Nishikori.

Betting

I like a couple of bets on Sunday. In the men’s draw I’m happy enough to take Stan Wawrinka at odds against in that huge match up against Stefanos Tsitsipas. I’ve not been impressed with Tsitsipas in the last couple of rounds. He has shown flashes of brilliance but he will need to perform in more than batches here against a Wawrinka who has looked very strong in the tournament to date. Wawrinka knows what it takes to go the course and the distance at this place and that experience could be valuable. I fancy both might need to go to the trenches here but at the prices the Swiss is the man for me.

In the women’s draw one of the standout performances of the competition so far was the one Petra Martic put in to see off Karolina Pliskova in the previous round and I fancy she will have enough to see off Kaia Kanepi with a fair bit in hand here. Martic hit the ball cleanly and decisively and was moving very well in that match. Kanepi has done really well to make it this far in the tournament but I think she’s up in class against the in-form Croat and so I expect Martic to breeze through here.
