Preview

The attention for the majority of the day is on the battle to avoid the drop although there are a couple of European challenges to keep an eye on as well. We begin at St Mary’s where Burnley will look to ease their relegation fears when they make the trip to take on Southampton, who have an FA Cup semi-final in two weeks in their minds. Newcastle United will then look to pull themselves away from danger when they host a Tottenham Hotspur side who are very inconsistent these days but do tend to put poor sides away.

The third match of the afternoon sees Fulham look to continue their fight to avoid an immediate return to the Championship. If Newcastle United haven’t won beforehand, the Cottagers will be out of the bottom three for the first time in a while should they win their match at Aston Villa. The action concludes at Old Trafford where Brighton and Hove Albion will look to move within a few points of safety when they take on a Manchester United side who are playing for second place from here on in you would think.

Betting

There is just the one bet that I’m taking although Burnley interest me at Southampton. There are mixed signals over the status of Danny Ings and Theo Walcott who are back in training but it is unclear how fit they are so I will sit that one out until we’ve got team news there as I would expect Southampton to be much improved with those two back in their ranks. Instead I’ll turn my attention to Villa Park where I expect Fulham to get something out of their match with Aston Villa.

Villa have only won one of their last seven matches and worryingly they have only scored three in that time. That includes a defeat to Sheffield United and draws against Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United. Much of their struggles was down to the absence of Jack Grealish who is said to be back for this match but how fit or sharp he is remains to be seen. After a spell of five games unbeaten got Fulham onto the coattails of teams above them, they have now lost three of their last four matches although they have been to Manchester City, Tottenham and Leeds United so there’s no shame in those. In the main though Fulham have been much tighter at the back in this second part of the season and if they can find something up top I expect them to avoid defeat here and possibly beat a side whose season doesn’t have a whole lot left to play for.

Tips

Back Fulham (+0.25AH) to beat Aston Villa for a 3/10 stake at 1.99 with Bet365
