Preview

There is no doubt which is the big match on the night. It is the one at Anfield where top spot is on the line as the top two in the table meet when second placed Liverpool host the leaders Tottenham Hotspur in a game which will hopefully live up to the billing. Should that match finish a draw it could be Leicester City who end the night on top of the table if they can pick up the win when they host an inconsistent Everton side at the King Power Stadium.

Southampton are sitting pretty in the top four and they’ll look to strengthen their position when they make the trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal while at the other end of the table there is a huge clash at Craven Cottage between Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion. The other two matches see Leeds United looking to get their home form back on track when they host Newcastle United at Elland Road and West Ham United meeting Crystal Palace in the London derby at the London Stadium.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the evening with the first of them coming at the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal just have to be opposed as favourites now. There aren’t many sides in the Premier League at the minute that I wouldn’t take Arsenal on with but Southampton certainly are one of them as they are absolutely flying right now and doing everything that Arsenal don’t seem to be doing. They defend well, press high and in numbers and they have a real set piece threat which is often important against Arsenal too. This is a match with sides going in completely opposition directions so I’m more than happy to take Southampton on a + handicap.

The other bet I like is for Tottenham Hotspur to avoid defeat against Liverpool in the big match of the night. I don’t think either team will have a surprise for the other here but like him or loathe him Mourinho seems to know how to completely stifle these big games and play them on his terms. I don’t expect much to change here either. Liverpool have injuries, although as Mourinho pointed out not as many as is being made to be the case, and their form has suffered a little as a result. Their home form hasn’t but they only truly convinced against a Wolves side who put in a pathetic showing. Spurs will load up in defence but they carry enough of a threat on the counter attack to get something out of this one.
