2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Sunday 19th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The second night of the Remote Darts League takes place on Sunday evening with the 10 men involved once again battling it out in their own homes, looking for two points which could assist them in their quest to make the latter stages of the event.

The first night of the tournament was very enjoyable, with a decent enough standard and more importantly the streaming was highly efficient and very watchable. Everything is likely to naturally improve for the second night so we should be in for another enjoyable evening.

The Format

If you are a fan of the Premier League Darts event that the PDC hold each year this format will be familiar to you as it is very similar to that. The 10 men face each other once over the first nine evenings of the competition with the top four in the league table progressing to finals night in the 10th evening. The winner of the semi-finals and final is crowned the champion. Each match in the league phase is the best of 12 legs and players get two points for a win and one for a draw. The whole event will be shown live on the Remote Darts League channel on YouTube.

Night One Recap

There were four winners in the five matches on the opening night. The first of those was James Richardson who saw off Alan Norris in a match where there were more breaks of throw than holds. Gary Robson was the biggest winner of the night as he took care of a poor Dean Winstanley before tournament favourite Jim Williams took care of Wes Newton. The night finished with Darryl Fitton outlasting John Walton. The match of the night though was the penultimate one which saw Tony O’Shea drawing 6-6 with Paul Hogan.

It was a good start to the tournament for us betting wise with Darryl Fitton overcoming John Walton. It looked touch and go at 4-4 but you could see Walton waning a little and Fitton got stronger and pulled away to win 7-4 and bring in the first winner of what will hopefully be many over the course of the competition.

Fixtures

Jim Williams v Gary Robson

Darryl Fitton v Tony O’Shea

Paul Hogan v James Richardson

Alan Norris v John Walton

Dean Winstanley v Wes Newton

Preview

It looks like another decent night of darts on show on Sunday night. Two winners from the opening night open the show as Jim Williams meets Gary Robson in a clash in which the winner could well lead the way after the evening ends. Two good pals meet in the second match as Darryl Fitton looks to build on his win on the opening night when he plays Tony O’Shea. The other two men who avoided defeat on Saturday meet in the third match of the session as Paul Hogan takes on James Richardson in what is the clash of the night on paper.

The night finishes with the four men who lost on the first night who could all do with a win here to keep themselves in contention. Alan Norris faces John Walton in the penultimate match of the evening before two men who had decent PDC careers close out the show as Dean Winstanley takes on UK Open finalist Wes Newton.

Betting

There are two bets I like for the second night of action. The first is on Tony O’Shea to beat his good friend Darryl Fitton. I was actually really impressed with O’Shea in his 6-6 draw against Paul Hogan on Saturday night. He scored well and his finishing was crisp and it is the latter point which I think will serve him well here. Fitton was as we all remember him against Walton. He scored well but his finishing was erratic and in the end he probably only won because Walton felt the pinch having not played for so long. You would think there is more to come from O’Shea and the 7/5 on him without the draw in play looks big.

I’ll also take Wes Newton in the final match of the night. I wouldn’t say he was brilliant against Jim Williams on the first night but he certainly wasn’t bad. Dean Winstanley was comfortably the weakest of the players on show and while he is going to improve as the week goes on it is still probably early enough that he still isn’t going to be particularly difficult to beat. I would expect Newton to get on top early and ram home his advantage.
