The quarter finals of the Gold Cup get underway on Saturday evening when the first two spots in the semi-finals will be taken up by one of the four teams who are in action in what is a double header in the CONCACAF showpiece.
The matches come along one after the other but you’ll need to be a night owl to watch the second one in particular. They should be decent matches though with all four teams looking decent enough in the group phase.
Qatar vs El Salvador (00.30)
The opening match of the quarter finals sees the invited team looking to continue to gatecrash the party when Qatar take on El Salvador in a match which sees the winner of Group D taking on the runner up in Group A.
Qatar took a match to get up to speed in this tournament but that is understandable with them having not played a competitive match in a long time. They played their last two matches like a side who might be better than the level in this competition and so El Salvador are going to have their work cut out here. El Salvador began the tournament strongly against inferior opposition but then it went pear-shaped when they came up against a good side in Mexico in their final group match. I expect Qatar to have a bit too much for El Salvador here.

Mexico vs Honduras (03.00)
The more interesting match of the two is probably the second one to begin when Mexico take on Honduras in a clash between two sides who harbour hopes of winning the tournament. Only one of them will make the semi-final though.
Honduras will hope they don’t live to rue the fact they lost top spot in the group in the final match of it last week. Mexico took their time to get up to speed in the tournament but they have won their last two matches and look to be finding their feet. Honduras had looked very good in the early stages of the group but when it really mattered they were found wanting and they need a huge performance here to make up for that. I’m already on Honduras outright and the whole equation opens right up for them if they can find a win here so I’ll use that as mu interest in this one.
