The second day of the German Darts Grand Prix is the day where the seeded players come into the tournament which automatically elevates the competition. This is the day where the qualifiers meet a seeded player in the last 16.
That means that we will see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price on the stage for the first time this weekend on what looks on the face of it to be a pretty decent day of darts over in Berlin.
Afternoon Session
The action begins with one of the rising stars in the game on show when Callan Rydz takes on a Keegan Brown who will be hoping to use the remainder of the weekend to find some form. Rob Cross is then on show when he meets Karel Sedlacek, a player who had a bye in the first round. Our pre-tournament pick Dirk van Duijvenbode will be third onto the stage. He faces the Croatian powerhouse Boris Krcmar before Jose de Sousa gets his campaign underway against Madars Razma.
The second half of the afternoon session sees The Masters champion Joe Cullen opening up his campaign. He meets Wesley Plaisier who had a good win over Jim Williams in the first round. Two speedsters then take to the stage when Luke Humphries meets Jeffrey de Zwaan before the home crowd get the chance to get behind one of their own as Martin Schindler faces Brendan Dolan. The afternoon finishes with a cracker of a match between Jonny Clayton and Dave Chisnall.

Evening Session
Dimitri Van den Bergh gets the evening session underway on Sunday when he takes on the other home favourite Max Hopp before one of the ties of the round which sees Damon Heta going up against Raymond van Barneveld. The German number one Gabriel Clemens will be third onto the stage when he meets Martin Lukeman before we reach the halfway mark of the evening with another great looking game as Gerwyn Price takes on Keane Barry.
The second half of the evening begins with a couple of world champions on show when the current one Peter Wright takes on Scott Waites. Michael van Gerwen then gets his title defence underway when he meets a Chris Dobey who will be looking to challenge for a European Tour event sooner rather than later. Ryan Searle is the penultimate seed on show when he faces the American player Danny Baggish with the last match of a busy day seeing Michael Smith taking on Berry van Peer.
Betting
Brendan Dolan might have the crowd against him for his match against Martin Schindler but he’s a pretty experienced character so I would be surprised if that fazes him in any way. Dolan comes here in decent form having made a semi-final in the Players Championship events last weekend and he is someone who performs pretty consistently on the European Tour stage so I’m a little surprised that bookmakers can’t separate these two men.
Schindler had a solid win over Jermaine Wattimena on Saturday but in three efforts he has never beaten Dolan with their most recent meeting being on the floor just two weeks ago. Whether Schindler suffers with the slightly slower pace you get out of the Northern Irishman I’m not sure but he’s taken three solid enough beatings from him. I fancy that will be a fourth here as when Dolan hits form he tends to stay in it for quite a while.
