The ATP Miami Open has reached the last 16 stage of the competition which means for the first time in the Florida event both halves of the draw will play on the same day as we head towards the business end of the second Masters 1000 tournament of the year.
We have had some shocks and surprises this week but we do still have four of the top six seeds left in the draw and with them all in action on Tuesday we should be set for another compelling day of tennis around the Hard Rock Stadium complex.
Stadium Court
Three of the eight matches taking place in the men’s draw on Tuesday will be on the main stadium. We begin with a really exciting looking clash between the home man Taylor Fritz and the young buck Holger Rune. A women’s match follows that one but when the men return to close out the day session we will see the number one seed Carlos Alcaraz continuing the defence of his title when he goes up against another home player in Tommy Paul. The other men’s match comes from the night session when we will see Daniil Medvedev once again. He has a date with the heavy hitting Quentin Halys to navigate.

Grandstand
The other five matches on Tuesday take place over on the Grandstand court and the action begins with the match of the day as Jannik Sinner meets Andrey Rublev. When they are done Botic van de Zandschulp will look to build on his win over Casper Ruud in the previous round when he goes up against Emil Ruusuvuori before another good looking match forms the third game on the schedule. That is a repeat of the Australian Open semi-final between Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The penultimate match of the day sees Adrian Mannarino taking on the home qualifier Christopher Eubanks before the action is rounded off in the night session when Francisco Cerundolo meets Lorenzo Sonego.
Betting
This looks a competitive card on Tuesday but there is one bet I like the look of and that comes in the night session when Francisco Cerundolo takes on Lorenzo Sonego, surprisingly as an outsider for the match. I get that Sonego has played well this week but I didn’t really think either Dominic Thiem nor Frances Tiafoe really turned up against him and Dan Evans’ form is nothing to write home about. The other thing about Sonego is his match against Tiafoe was still finishing around 11pm on Monday night and he’s back on court less than 24 hours later in taxing conditions.
Cerundolo is a little hit and miss but he seems to love it here in Miami. He made the semi-final here on debut last year and has breezed into this last 16 clash. His win over Felix Auger-Aliassime is a good one even if the Canadian was nowhere near his best and the way the Argentine hits the ball through the court I think he can get at the Sonego weakness of his backhand and really take advantage. Cerundolo has had a few extra hours to prepare too which might make a difference. Given his love for Miami he feels overpriced to me.
