Super League XXVIII – Friday 31st March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXVIII weekend continues on Friday night when two more matches take place as four more teams play their final game before the busy Easter weekend which usually dictates how the table will shape up.

We have one of the two matches live on the TV to enjoy on Friday evening and given that the champions are involved in the other one I am expecting regular updates on that one throughout the TV coverage. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game.

Hull KR vs Leeds Rhinos (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised cameras head to Craven Park on Friday night when two sides who have made inconsistent starts to their season meet when Hull KR play host to a Leeds Rhinos side who have dominated this fixture in recent campaigns.

Both these teams have won three and lost three of their first six matches this term but importantly they both arrive into this contest off the back of victories which should give them confidence to perform to their best here. The interesting thing will be who is most focused here. Hull KR have the Hull derby next week which are always season defining matches and so it wouldn’t be a total surprise if they have an eye on that match. Leeds don’t really have as intense a rivalry as that with anyone and face Huddersfield next week so there is no need for them not to be focused on this one. Both teams have players returning from last week. Leeds will have their pack strengthened by James Bentley being back from suspension and Mikolaj Oledzki returning from injury. Jordan Abdull and Dean Hadley are among those returning to the squad for Hull KR. Willie Peters is talking a lot about Hull KR’s defence showing up last week but Wakefield haven’t really threatened a defence all season so I’m not sure about that. Leeds did stand up to some good attacking play last week and while Catalans just ran out of personnel, Leeds looked dangerous in attack throughout that match and I think I liked their win last week more than that of Hull KR. I just about give them the edge in this one.

St Helens vs Wakefield Trinity (20.00)

Away from the TV cameras the champions St Helens will be in action once again when they host lowly Wakefield Trinity who have one last chance to get some points before they go into the rivals round over Easter.

St Helens certainly haven’t been the relentless, beat everything in their way juggernaut we are used to seeing them be in the last three campaigns just yet but you sense with what awaits them next week they will be fully focused to gear up towards their best form. Wakefield have been ordinary this season and already it looks like they are going to need a miracle to stay up this season. They have the formula that nobody wants in that they aren’t scoring many points and are shipping far too many of them. In half of their six matches Wakefield haven’t scored a point this season and they have conceded 30 and more in half of them too. This one is all about St Helens and I’m not at all surprised they are being asked to cover 26 points. Incredibly that is a total St Helens are yet to score this season though and while I have no doubt they will score that many here, were they to take their eye off the ball or rest a couple of key players down the stretch with the huge derby next week in mind we could easily be done up by a back door cover. If I had to bet I’d take Saints to cover the cap but that derby game is such a shadow over this one that I’ll just let them cover it rather than sweat being done by a late score.
