Sky Bet Championship 2024-25 – Millwall vs Burnley Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon when the final match of the start of a busy week of action takes us to The New Den for a clash of styles as Millwall play host to Burnley to round off another set of games.

Millwall are holding their own in the division this season which is probably the height of their ambitions at the minute. Burnley are looking for an immediate return to the Premier League and probably need to be winning games like this if they are to achieve that.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Football channel with the build-up getting underway at 2.30pm ahead of the 3pm kick off in London.

Millwall

The Lions have started the season off with inconsistent consistency as evidenced by the fact that they have four wins, four draws and four losses from their opening 12 matches. The way the Championship table has bunched right up though, that is good enough to have them in the top half of the standings and were they to find a win in this match they would end the round in the top seven which is quite an incentive for the home side.

While Millwall are going well in the table and head into this match unbeaten in their last four outings, it should be noted that their four wins have come against sides who began the weekend in the bottom half of the table, three of whom remain in the bottom seven. Clearly they take on a side who whatever happens to them this term are going to be in the top half of the table and probably much higher than that so we might find out a little more about the Lions’ credentials here.

Burnley

When you consider that after suffering the disappointments of relegation from the Premier League last term and then losing their manager almost immediately after the previous campaign had ended, on the face of it Burnley have started the season well with just one loss in their opening 12 matches but there is a feeling that they are flattering to deceive under Scott Parker a little. That is largely down to how they destroyed the Championship the last time they were in it you would imagine.

Burnley fans are probably entitled to have expected their side to win more than half of their matches so far but six wins from 12 is the return that they have. Five draws in that time have the potential to hold them back, especially with three of them coming in the last four matches, but to the credit of Parker he has tightened up the Burnley defence after they conceded for fun last season. You would imagine there is too much class in this squad not to fire in front of goal regularly in the not too distant future.

Team News

Neil Harris is hoping that he will have the attacking duo of Tom Bradshaw and Josh Coburn available for him to select from for this match while Billy Mitchell is another who is back in training and hoping to be involved in the contest.

Scott Parker is hoping that he will have Jeremy Sarmiento back from injury for this match but the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson, Lyle Foster and Joe Worrall are among a number of players who are out for the Clarets.

Betting

Millwall have only played three sides in the top eight of the table at present and they lost to Watford and Bristol City and drew 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion in a match where they offered just a pitiful 17% of possession against a Baggies side who have gone goal shy all of a sudden. They will surely need something like a season best showing if they are going to prove they have what it takes to beat one of the better sides in the division even allowing for The New Den being a tough place to go.

Millwall have already lost at home to Luton and Watford this season and with Burnley not giving much away at the back and with a Zian Flemming who returns to this part of London for the first time since forcing his move in the summer likely to be highly motivated I expect the Clarets to have too much in forward areas for the Lions. I don’t anticipate this being the greatest watch of all time and goals might be at a premium but the ones which do come are more likely to go to the visitors who are comfortably the better side of the two but given that they have become a little too draw-centric for my liking I’ll play the draw no bet Asian line here.
