Australia have won their ongoing ODI series with Pakistan and now they will go in search of an elusive whitewash over the final two matches, the first of which comes up in Dubai on Friday when the two sides meet in the fourth ODI.
Pakistan have to be disappointed with their levels so far in the series and have two more matches to prove their worth and for those not yet in the World Cup squad, to try and force their way in with a couple of eye catching displays.
Australia
Even though they let a few chances slip in the field in the third game, it was another match where only Australia were ever in it and that will give the Aussies so much of a boost heading into the World Cup. David Warner and Steve Smith have seen their bans end and while they are at the IPL for these final two matches, those who are appearing will be looking to continue their form and make sure they are hard to drop come the big event.
I think the big thing for Australia has been how well they have batted in this series so far. They haven’t put up the 300+ scores that they will need in England later in the year but the runs they are scoring given the pitches they are playing on probably transfers to 300+ in better conditions. If they can continue that then they will head to England as genuine challengers.
Pakistan
I appreciate that Pakistan are looking at the future more than the present in this series but even so the performances they have put in have been extremely disappointing to say the least. They have been found wanting in all three matches with the bat which is surprising in these conditions and they’ve offered little with the ball throughout the series.
There seemed like there were going to be places in the World Cup squad up for grabs for those not guaranteed their place in this series but you’d be hard pushed to say anyone has staked their claim. They have two more matches to do so and surely have to offer better than what we’ve seen those far. If they don’t we’re just going to see much more of the same.
Team News
Australia could well choose to use their fringe players for the rest of the series. Kane Richardson is yet to see any time in the middle in this series so you would think he plays here with Cummins perhaps rested from here on in.
Pakistan have been rotating their side throughout the series and that isn’t likely to change too much here. It is anyone’s guess which combination they go into this match with but it is fair to say changes should be expected.

Betting
I’ve been taking Australia on the handicap throughout this series but I’m not sure I want to be playing that in a dead rubber. I’m not saying I’d be surprised if it comes in because I wouldn’t but I’m loathe to take it with nothing on the line now. I’m not convinced the last two matches are going to be that easy to bet on but there is a performance that I like for this match.
Glenn Maxwell has had a mixed series so far but he ran hot in the previous match and usually goes on streaks of decent form. He contributed with the bat and the ball in that match and he is always dynamite in the field. I would wager these Dubai pitches are going to suit all facets of Maxwell’s game better than the other two so I’m happy to buy the over at 42.5pts.
