CPL 2019 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League continues on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning where the action returns to the Queens Park Oval as the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in a big match up.

Trinbago won their opening match of the competition on Wednesday evening while the Tallawahs get their campaign underway in this clash. The pre-tournament odds suggested this will be the final at the end so both will be eager to lay a marker down.

Trinbago Knight Riders

We got what we would have expected from the Trinbago Knight Riders in the opening match of the competition and the positive thing as far as they are concerned is that there is a lot more to come from them too when you consider the players that they were missing. Whether they will produce that later in the competition when they are away from home remains to be seen but already they look justified in being favourites for the tournament.

Even though their top order didn’t fire like it could do against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the first match, we saw all their experience and quality in the middle order come to the fore and when the trigger was pulled they powered clear. The one thing we know about Trinbago is that they are going to be miserly and hard to chase down scores against with the amount of options they have with the ball.

Jamaica Tallawahs

There is a lot of excitement and anticipation around the Jamaica Tallawahs this season with the return home of Chris Gayle very much getting everyone roused. When you add in Andre Russell to their core side as well this is not going to be a team that lacks for power that is for sure. On this sort of pitch the Tallawahs have the batting line up to put the fear of god into any team they go up against which is vital for them.

The Jamaican outfit don’t look as strong with the ball although Jerome Taylor and Oshane Thomas can bowl firecrackers down at the opposition. Zahir Khan will be a big player for them when they get back home once he’s done with Afghanistan duty but in the meantime they do look a little light in the spin department which might just prove significant early in the tournament.

Team News

Trinbago Knight Riders are still missing some big players for this match. Both the Bravo brothers are missing through injury while Colin Munro is still with New Zealand so he is going to miss the match as well.

Jamaica Tallawahs will be without Zahir Khan as he is playing for Afghanistan out in Bangladesh but the flip side of that is that Chris Gayle is fit and he’s ready to fire for his home side. Andre Russell is fit to play as well.

Betting

I think we’ve seen in the two matches so far that although both the sides who have posted a score have defended, you don’t want to be backing teams batting first very often because the dew is going to be a big factor. Trinbago probably should have lost their first match but the Patriots collapsed when seemingly in control so I don’t want to bet on the match outcome.

That doesn’t really matter though because the bet I like here is for more than 15.5 sixes. We saw 16 sixes here in the first match and St Kitts and Nevis aren’t the biggest hitting team in the tournament. They certainly have nothing in terms of power compared to this Jamaica Tallawahs side so I’m expecting at least as many sixes here especially when you factor in that there is more to come from the Trinbago side with Sunil Narine and Lendl Simmons only offering one six between them. This is a small ground, the wicket is usually good and over 15.5 sixes looks good to me.
