The second part of the double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday is the last match of the first phase of the competition and sees the two teams who were in the top two at the start of the day battling it out when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the Barbados Royals.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors will have been overtaken in the race for second spot by the time they play this match but a win will give them two chances to make the final next week. The Royals have been confirmed in top spot for some time and for them this is all about determining their opponent in the first qualifier.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
You have to give a lot of credit to the Guyana Amazon Warriors. They knew that even though they were stranded at the bottom of the table heading into their home leg of the tournament that three wins from their four games would see them safely through to the final stages. They have picked those three victories up with a match to spare and now they have a risk free shot at a spot in the top two which would give them two goes at making the final.
That is the reward in terms of what a win means to the competition but a victory would also see them keeping up their momentum and confidence which at this stage of a tournament can almost be more important than the route to success. Guyana have come alive with the bat in their home conditions and they knew all along that they had a bowling attack which would be able to get the job done on the pitches they encounter here.
Barbados Royals
Obviously plenty of credit needs to go to the Barbados Royals for the season they have put together so far in this campaign. They have lost just one of their matches to date but if there is a slight concern it might be that they have only played one match in the last eight days so there is a chance that the momentum they have built up might have been allowed to disappear. That match was against a terrible St Kitts and Nevis Patriots side so it will be interesting to see what intensity they play with here.
We have seen in the tournament so far that Barbados have a really nice balance to their attack and if anything that has got even stronger since Mujeeb Ur Rahman has come into the tournament. They have batted well throughout the campaign but their batting looked a batter light in the last game after the disappearance of David Miller and Quinton de Kock. Reinforcements are arriving though and if they hit the ground running Barbados look in good shape.

Key Players
I wouldn’t say that the innings of Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the game for the Guyana Amazon Warriors but if he can get after this Barbados bowling attack early and get them on the back foot it will be important. You would imagine he’ll be most comfortable against Mujeeb too.
Rakheem Cornwall could be a big player for the Barbados Royals here. He will open the batting and look to take advantage of the fielding restrictions but three of the top five for Guyana are left handed so his off spin could be vital as well.
Betting
Hopefully we get a game here after the wash out earlier in the day and if we do you would imagine it is going to be hard work for the bowlers on a ground that is going to be wet and making the ball like a bar of soap. We’ve seen in the three evening matches here that bowling has been difficult because of the dew and a wet ball so I certainly don’t expect anything to change in that regard here and if the rain does stay away then I expect to see a number of sixes in this one.
These are two powerful batting units and with Barbados having Najibullah Zadran arriving for this one that might negate some of the Guyana spinners who with the exception of one all spin the ball into the pads of a left hander. The sixes have kept on coming on this ground and with their being no knockout edge or pressure to this one I expect these two batting units to put on a bit of a show and cover the 14.5 sixes line once again.
