The Sunday action at Euro 2020 sees the two matches taking place at the same time and the lower profile game comes from Baku where Switzerland and Turkey go at it in a match which could yet see one of these qualify for the next stage.
These two sides remain without a win from their first two matches but Switzerland did get a draw from their opening game so are in a better position of the two. Turkey haven’t shown their worth at all thus far but a win here could still get them through.
Where to watch
This match will be shown on ITV4 while the other game in the group is going on over on ITV1. The build-up to the match begins at 3.55pm with kick off coming at 5pm.
Switzerland
It was hard to know what to make of Switzerland heading into the tournament and in truth after two matches we’re still no closer to knowing what they are all about. They haven’t really offered anything of note in the competition yet. They have a point to their name but that largely came from Wales being terrible at times. It is probably a negative to the Swiss that they didn’t come out of that match with a win.
To be fair to them they were never going to get much out of the Italy game. That is just a terrible match for them but you sense there is a reluctant within this Swiss side to express themselves and show how good they can be. They have an aging defence which might be what is worrying them but they also have some talented players in attacking areas who just haven’t been given the best chance to showcase their talents.
Turkey
There was a lot of hype of dark horses around this Turkey side heading into the tournament. I never shared that faith this year although had the competition gone on last year when it was originally scheduled I certainly would have been. The disappointing thing with Turkey so far in this tournament is that they went into it with a reputation for being an attacking force but we haven’t seen anything of that in their two matches so far.
They haven’t been able to keep the ball, they have been flat footed and opened up far too easily defensively and the biggest concern of the lot is that they have looked tired and physically flat. Despite all of that though they still have a chance to go through to the next stage of the competition so if they can rouse themselves for a decent 90 minutes in front of a lot of their own fans, they could yet achieve that fate no matter how unlikely it looks based on their opening two performances.

Team News
Switzerland haven’t reported any injury problems but the switch I predicted would happen at some point in the tournament looks like doing so here with Haris Seferovic set to sit out and Marco Gavranovic given his chance to impress from the start.
Turkey boss Senol Gunes has intimated that he is going to make changes for this match although he didn’t go as far as to suggest which area of the pitch they will be in. I’d imagine it will be in the centre of the park where they have looked very leggy so far.
Betting
Both teams need to win this match to have any chance of going through to the next round but they probably need to win big to give themselves the best opportunity of progressing. Turkey certainly have to win and win well but Switzerland go into the game with a -3 goal difference so even if they win, given that there are going to be a lot of sides in this competition finish on four points, unless they win well they might still exit on goal difference.
That makes me think we might get a more open game than expected here and as such I like the look of over 2.5 goals in this one. I’m effectively already on Turkey to win this game having backed Switzerland to finish bottom of the group, so I don’t need to touch the match market but if Turkey score then Switzerland will have to take plenty of risks to be able to win the game – remember a draw is no use to them. Turkey can’t sit back because they need to win by a few goals and hope their three points is enough with a more creditable goal difference. Even if they don’t think they can get through the fans in Baku won’t let them coast through this game so over 2.5 goals looks like a good punt to me.
