The second night of qualifiers for Euro 2020 in the latest international break take place on a Friday night which promises plenty of entertainment and competitive matches as we head into the second half of the competition.
We saw Spain and Italy light up Thursday evening and on Friday we have the World Cup finalists Croatia and the Nations League finalists Netherlands on show as well as a Germany side who will have plenty of eyes on them.
Group C
The biggest match of the night comes from Group C of the competition where the former World Cup winners Germany take on the Nations League finalists Netherlands in a match which should be full of quality and anticipation. Before they go up against each other the two lesser ranked sides in the group meet when Estonia host Belarus in the early kick off. Both teams will want to win that to ease their World Cup seeding when that competition comes round.
Group E
This is the group where the World Cup finalists Croatia are housed and they face a tricky looking test away to Slovakia in a match they can’t really afford to lose after a mixed start to their campaign. Speaking of matches which teams can’t afford to lose that is very much the boat that Wales are in when they host lowly Azerbaijan in Cardiff. Not only do they need to win that but they could do with winning it by a few goals for both confidence and goal difference.
Group G
This group is a little more straightforward in terms of the fact that it is being dominated by Poland and they will be looking to continue what looks like a cruise into the main tournament when they head to face a Slovenia side who haven’t started their campaign very well. Austria look like they are going to be in a right battle with Israel for the second spot in the group so they will know there is no room for slipping up when they entertain a Latvia side who have shipped 13 goals in four losing efforts thus far.
Group I
It is a huge night for Scotland in Group I when they take on the side they were meant to be battling with for second placed honours in this section. That team is Russia but given Scotland’s poor start to the campaign they really need to win this with a draw not really being enough. Belgium look like they have a penalty kick against San Marino in a match where it is surely all about how many they win by while the early kick off sees Cyprus entertaining a limited Kazakhstan side but one who could find themselves right in the mix for second place with a win here.
Betting
I’ll stick with just the one bet on Friday night given that a couple of the ones I was lining up a little earlier in the week have moved a line in the handicaps. Russia and Belgium did interest me but the lines have rightly moved to where they should be which rules me out of this one. One match where the line is still out comes in the Wales against Azerbaijan match.
All along I had this as a -2 match in Wales’ favour so the fact we can get the -1.75 line at decent odds will do me. I expect Wales to be too good here. It would be better if Aaron Ramsey and David Brooks was available but importantly Gareth Bale is around and that is enough for me with the form he is in. You get the feeling he has a real point to prove at the present time and this is a good platform for him to do it on. With Daniel James and Harry Wilson either side and Tom Lawrence and Joe Allen in support Wales don’t lack for attacking options against an Azerbaijan defence which has already shipped five goals to Slovakia and three to Hungary in this campaign. Wales should be capable of winning this by at least two but potentially more than that too.
