Grand Slam of Darts 2022 – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The Grand Slam of Darts continues on Monday evening and it does so with the concluding matches in Groups A-D of the competition as we finalise half of the last 16 draw inside the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton.

We already know two of the eight qualifiers from this half of the draw and over the course of the night we will find out the other six be it via straight elimination games or the conclusion of groups which could yet involve nine dart shootouts.

First Four Matches

We open up with the World Series of Darts finalist Dirk van Duijvenbode taking to the stage. He has already qualified for the next stage and will close out his group campaign against an already eliminated Adam Gawlas. Raymond van Barneveld is the other player already through from this half of the draw. He is second onto the stage to take on Ted Evetts, who is already out of qualifying contention. We then get to the matches that matter with Group B the focus of attention as Simon Whitlock looks to take a step towards the knockout stage when he meets Christian Perez. Mensur Suljovic will follow them knowing he has to better the Whitlock result when he meets Danny Noppert if he is to snatch the second qualifying spot.

Later Four Matches

The second part of the evening begins with the first of the two straight knockout matches taking place when the Belgian Open champion Dave Chisnall meets the former winner of this tournament Gerwyn Price. We then focus the attention on Group C where all four players can either progress or go out. Joe Cullen will look to enhance his qualifying hopes when he meets Lisa Ashton. Ritchie Edhouse will then need to better the Cullen result to go through. He meets Michael Smith know needs just two legs to guarantee his progression. The final match of the night is the second straight knockout encounter as Rob Cross takes on Martin Schindler.

Betting

I’m no fan of betting on dead rubbers so I’ll leave the opening two matches well alone but the way the rest of the evening is scheduled the result of the first game in the group will have a significant impact on the second one so betting on those isn’t easy either. That leads me towards the two knockout matches and the interest comes in the second of those where I think Martin Schindler might be a touch of value to see off Rob Cross.

I think we should say that this match is probably in the hands of Cross. If he plays well he will probably win it but he is so inconsistent these days that there are certainly no guarantees that he will play well. Schindler might not be the best player in the world these days but he is pretty consistent and rarely underperforms so if Cross isn’t at the races, either in the scoring or the finishing, then the German will be there to take advantage. The last six meetings between these two have been shared 3-3 but Schindler won their most recent battle in a European Tour event. He’s the value in this match.
