The top class racing takes a break on Monday but that does not mean there are no cards for us to have a look at. Four meetings take place up and down England and Scotland over the course of the afternoon and into the evening and having had a look through the cards we have come up with bets in a couple of races at Ayr and Wolverhampton.

9 runners but many in with chances in this mile handicap. Racemaker doesn’t look the most solid favourite in my book, off the same mark in the same class as when 3rd last time out with no apparent excuses. Smugglers Creek is 4lb higher after winning last time out but isn’t one to trust, but I do think Sultan Baybars, of the market leaders, could go well. However, at bigger prices, I think there are 2 to look very closely at.
Betting
War Department is a 5 year old that has tumbled down the weights & today might just be the day for him. He last won 12 months off a 18lb higher mark & I can’t believe he’s gone that far backwards in such a short space of time. His form this year hasn’t been great but he did start off in Class 2 handicaps, this is a Class 5. There was promise last time out when 2nd to a well handicapped horse & he’s off the same mark today. Down in grade & from a yard coming back to form, he should go well.
Despite being a 8 year old, I cannot ignore the chances of Testa Rossa. He’s another on a workable mark who showed improved form last time out. He has his ideal conditions today; Ayr (being his favourite course) on good or better ground. Last time over this trip in this grade, he scooted up at 10/1 off a mark only 2lb lower. Back at a mile, which I think is his best trip, he should run well. He was 3rd on his first run of the year off 87 (he’s off 74 today) &, other than that, I think either the trip or grade has caught him out. Another at a big price to consider.

A Class 4 handicap over 6 furlongs on the all-weather with Anonymous John & Conversant vying for favouritism. Both have something to prove & I’d rather look for one at longer odds. Course specialist A Sure Welcome should go well but is too short in the market for me so I’m hoping for a shock & backing one at a big price.
Betting
Bobby Joe Leg is the least fancied of the yard’s 2 runners but I think he’s capable of going well. He’s a 4yo that has only been out 8 times in his short career. Simply put, he’s an all-weather horse & I’m prepared to ignore his last 4 runs, all on turf. Previous to that, he won a maiden at Newcastle at 33/1 before fading at the same track over an extra furlong (too far). I will ignore his run at Southwell, a track that doesn’t work for many, but then came here & won over course & distance off just 1lb lower. This could go horribly wrong as it’s a big leap of faith thinking he’ll bounce back to form but, from a decent draw & at a huge price, I’m happy to get involved.
Tips
Back Bobby Joe Leg (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 17.00 BetBright BOG (¼ odds 1-3)
