West Indies continued their poor trot in India when the two sides played the first T20 of the three in the series on Sunday and they go into the second game on Tuesday knowing they must win if they have any hopes of coming out on top.
India certainly won’t have been happy with their performance in Kolkata and will be out to secure the series at the earliest opportunity but with a much stronger display than the one they produced at Eden Gardens.
India
In fairness to India, it looked like they were putting in a wonderful performance when they decimated the West Indies top order in Kolkata and although they didn’t ruthlessly finish them off with the ball they did more than enough to keep them to a well below par total but after that what followed will have been a huge concern.
I think it would be exaggerating it to suggest that India looked like losing the match with the bat but they certainly were not as convincing as they wanted to be and that will be their task here at Lucknow. I also say you can never criticise a team too much for winning but the way they won was very ugly it must be said.
West Indies
After offering so much in the first three ODIs, all the hard work and positivity West Indies had built up looks to have well and truly gone now. They produced their third ordinary effort in a row with the bat in the opening T20 and in truth they haven’t really been competitive in any of those matches even though they took a few scalps with them in Kolkata.
If West Indies are going to keep the series alive then it is imperative that they find their best form again with the bat. That swashbuckling style of theirs needs to come to the fore once again if they are to get the better of India. On the flip side their bowling has shown they can get into this Indian line up which could be invaluable.
Team News
India are expected to bring Bhuvneshwar Kumar back into their ranks for this match as he has recovered from the issue which kept him out of the opening game. Yuzvendra Chahal could come back into the side as well.
West Indies need to do something about their opening issue. The problem is they don’t really have any openers with them on this tour. Nicolas Pooran and Sherfane Rutherford will be looking to force their way in.

Betting
Both sides hit one six in Kolkata but I’m expecting more from the West Indies batting line up here. They can basically all hit sixes and at some point they are going to just have to swing with gay abandon if they can’t pick bowlers or keep certain men at bay.
You won’t find many matches in this format of the game where West Indies don’t hit the most sixes and if they can deal with Rohit Sharma early doors in this innings I don’t think this will be another. This is one of the bigger grounds in India so only the bigger hitters will clear the ropes here. More of those are in the West Indies side rather than the Indian one.
