The halfway stage of the Made in Denmark tournament has been reached and we’re all set up for a wonderful weekend in front of huge crowds on a golf course which is good for scoring but which carries a heavy punishment for any errant shots.
Englishman David Horsey takes a three shot lead into the second round of the tournament with him having carded 12 under par for the first two rounds. John Parry and Richard Green are the two closest pursuers but there are a number of players in range to fire themselves into contention on what promises to be an exciting moving day.
Horsey isn’t the most reliable when he’s in contention for a tournament which could explain why you can still get 5/2 on him winning the event from this position. He has been pretty much flawless so far in the tournament but there are doubts about him.
Green is now a solid second favourite at 7/1 with last year’s runner up Bradley Dredge at 9/1 despite being four shots off the lead at halfway. John Parry is also 9/1 to convert a rare tournament win. He has been playing well though and he might remain in contention over the weekend. Local hope Soren Kjeldsen is seven off the lead but can’t be ruled out at 18/1.
With Kjeldsen on five under and Chris Paisley at six under I’ve a couple of live runners going into the weekend so I’m not obliged to get stuck into the outright market again. Unfortunately players go out in groups of three again on Saturday which I’m not a huge fan of but there is a group which stands out for betting potential.
Bradley Dredge is out in the penultimate group on Saturday and he has a good record around this track. He was second here last year and he has shot two solid rounds this year.
In fairness the two men he goes out with are going well too. Terry Pilkadaris has been enjoying a good time of it on the Challenge Tour recently and he has taken that into this tournament and carded eight under for his two rounds so far. There were times early in his round on Friday where he was struggling but to his credit he came back well.
The third member of the group is Oliver Farr. He shot one of the rounds of the day on Thursday but could only follow that up with a level par round on Friday and although that didn’t take him out of contention it did show that when the heat arrives he might be found wanting a little.
Dredge loves this course and it isn’t a surprise because his game suits this track nicely. He’s enjoyed a pretty decent summer but stronger fields have got the better of him. It remains to be seen if he has the nerve to get it done this week but I certainly expect him to put himself right in the mix on Saturday.
