The latest set of matches in MLS conclude with three games on what actually looks like an entertaining night of football across Canada and America on Sunday night. It is an evening where sides below the play-off spots get the chance to steal the limelight.
Two of the matches are on TV for those of us in the UK with the other one being on the streaming services and everything else. We have a couple of Eastern Conference clashes before a Western Conference one.
Toronto FC vs New York City FC
The evening begins in the Eastern Conference when Toronto FC host New York City FC. Toronto FC still sit outside the play-off spaces in the table while New York City FC sit in third and are pushing for a bye in the postseason.
There are signs that the Canadians are starting to come back into form. They are undefeated in their last three matches and that is probably no surprise with that run coinciding with the return of Jozy Altidore. New York City have gone two matches without a win which represents a slump for them and it will be interesting to see how they cope here. This should be a good game but it is one that could go either way so I’ll sit out the opener.
DC United vs Orlando City
The second match of the night comes from Audi Field where Wayne Rooney and his DC United side get the chance for three points when they go up against an Orlando City side whose form is absolutely wretched.
DC have generally been pretty good on their new home patch but a theme of their matches has been the amount of goals in them and you can make that claim and double it as far as Orlando City are concerned. Their last two matches have contained 13 goals and I’m not expecting anything different here. Orlando just don’t have the structure to defend.
The goal line for this one is over 3.25 and when you think Orlando have scored and conceded at least three in their previous two matches and have shipped at least three in their last seven away games the chances of this line being covered are very high. While they leak far too many goals they do have some in them themselves and that is enough for me to take the over here.

Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas
The final match of the night sees the former champions Seattle Sounders taking on the Western Conference leaders FC Dallas in a battle of the West. Seattle can move to within three points of the play-offs with a win here while FC Dallas have already seen their closest challengers heading into the weekend lose so they have the chance to strengthen their position at the top.
It has taken an age to come but in keeping with their usual modus operandi the Seattle Sounders have now won their last four matches and are charging for the play-off places. FC Dallas have only lost four times all season and are so tough to beat. This is set up to be a great match but the odds on Seattle, who I’d favour to win if there is a winner, are a little short for my liking.
