The Major League Soccer season is warming up quite nicely and the third set of matches in the league take place over the course of the weekend with the majority of them being played across the pond on Saturday evening.
Some of the bigger hitters have made good starts to their campaigns while one or two other fancied sides have been slow out of the gates so it will be interesting to see what Saturday brings. One of the matches is on TV in the UK with the various streams available for the rest.
Saturday’s fixtures are follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Chicago Fire v Seattle Sounders FC (17.00)
Columbus Crew SC v FC Dallas (18.00)
Houston Dynamo v Vancouver Whitecaps FC (19.00)
New York Red Bulls v San Jose Earthquakes (19.30)
Orlando City SC v Montreal Impact (20.00)
D.C. United v Real Salt Lake (00.00)
LA Galaxy v Minnesota United FC (02.30)
Big Matches
The TV match for those of us who enjoy this league in the UK comes from the Big Apple as the New York Red Bulls look to put their NACL exit behind them when they entertain the San Jose Earthquakes. The other appealing match comes slightly earlier in the day when the Columbus Crew host FC Dallas in a match which could be seeing two title contenders in action. LA Galaxy take on Minnesota United in a big Western Conference clash.
Best of the Rest
We begin with a good looking game between the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders while two Western Conference sides do battle as Houston Dynamo host Vancouver Whitecaps while the one all-Eastern Conference match sees Orlando City looking for their first win of the campaign when they take on Montreal Impact. DC United host Real Salt Lake in the other match of a competitive looking night.

Betting
I like three bets in the division on Saturday with the first of them coming in Orlando where I’m expecting to see goals between Orlando City and Montreal Impact. Orlando have shown plenty of craft and quality going forward this season but not as much at the back and the same is often said of the Impact. This should be an end to end contest and one which over 2.75 goals looks to have a very good chance of landing in.
Real Salt Lake didn’t really impress me last week. I thought they were laboured and quite ordinary against the Vancouver Whitecaps and while they won the game there wasn’t much which inspired me about their display. That makes me like DC United here. We know they are incredibly strong at Audi Field and I expect them to show that once again here. DC United have already beaten Atlanta resoundingly here and I’m expecting to see another solid home win.
I’ve been keen on Minnesota United before a ball was kicked this season and they still aren’t getting the respect that they merit so I’m happy to take them on a + handicap in their match at Los Angeles Galaxy. Minnesota have won both their away matches so far, scoring three times in each and looking very good. Galaxy have a win and a loss on their record but only they will know how they beat Chicago Fire in their first match having been completely battered for 70 minutes. Chicago didn’t take their chances but this classy Minnesota attack will do and I think they’ll leave California with a result.
