After the late postponements on Wednesday night as the MLS came together almost as one to protest against the racial injustices in America, the competition is expected to resume with one match on Friday as two Canadian rivals collide.
Montreal Impact take on Toronto FC in the latest leg of the Canadian Championship which also counts towards the Eastern Conference regular season so there is plenty at stake in what should be a decent game if their meeting at the MLS is Back tournament is anything to go by.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live on Free Sports for those of us who are in the UK. The build up begins at 1.05am with the game kicking off shortly after that. As ever it will also be shown live on the bookmaker streaming consoles.
Montreal Impact
It has been a very stop-start campaign for the Montreal Impact so far, firstly due to Covid and then the restrictions that have seen only the Canadian sides able to play each other in this first phase of the return of the regular season. It does not appear to have dented them too much though as they go into this game off the back of successive victories in the regular season under Thierry Henry and could set themselves up nicely if they come out on top here.
Goals have been an issue for this Impact side ever since Ignacio Piatti became injury prone and ultimately departed the club and that is something Henry will need to sort out if his side are going to be successful. Either side of that crazy MLS is Back match between these two his side have only conceded two goals in four matches so he is beginning to get things right defensively, so if he can sort out the attack the Impact might be live outsiders.

Toronto FC
When a side gets beaten in a major final they can go either one of two ways. They can either slump after the disappointment or they can use it as a motivational drive and come out the following season with a point to prove. It would appear that Toronto FC have gone down the latter option judging by their results as they go into this match second in the Eastern Conference and are undefeated for the regular season thus far.
One thing this Toronto FC side are not lacking in is goals. A lot of that comes from the creative players they have in the team but having finally transitioned from the days of being able to rely on Sebastian Giovinco they now look ready to really push for the title. In an ideal world they will tighten up on defence a little but part of their appeal is how they can sometimes be vulnerable defensively while looking to find the net at the other end.
Betting
I’m expecting to see some goals in this match in a contest I suspect could very well open up quite quickly. That is exactly what happened when the two teams met in the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando last month. On that occasion it was 3-2 at half time and it never really tightened up after that with Toronto holding onto the lead to win 4-3 on the night that Ayo Akinola shot to prominence and it can be no bad thing that he is expected to be available here.
To be fair to Montreal, they look much more secure at the back but it is an aging backline and Toronto have the tools to threaten that defence. There does appear to be a bit more ‘va va voom’ for the Impact in the attacking areas of the pitch though so I’m expecting both teams to enjoy themselves in front of goal. The goal line for this match is 2.75 which feels on the low side of any game involving Toronto FC right now. I’ll play the over here.
