While most of the top leagues around the world have paused this weekend for the international break, that is not the case in the MLS 2023 campaign and so there is a full set of matches in the division on Saturday evening.
As ever this season if you want to watch these matches with proper coverage then you need to subscribe to the MLS season pass on Apple TV although six of them are available without a subscription on that platform. All the matches are accessible via the bookmaker streaming.

Portland Timbers v LA Galaxy (20.30)
Charlotte FC v New York Red Bulls
Columbus Crew v Atlanta United

Big Matches
St Louis City SC are the current pacesetters in the MLS and they will take their perfect record to Real Salt Lake for what might be their toughest test of the season so far given that the home side had the week off last week. Atlanta United are the team out in front in the Eastern Conference but they are without a whole host of internationals for their trip away to Columbus Crew, who themselves are going to be devoid of some key men. The early kick off comes from Oregon where both Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy will look to find a spark to their season.
Best of the Rest
There are plenty of other matches on the Saturday card which would be extremely appealing were it not for the fact that international duty is going to deprive us of seeing some of the stars. Sporting Kansas City hosting Seattle Sounders would be one such contest while Philadelphia Union against Orlando City SC, two teams who lifted silverware last season, is another. Los Angeles FC against FC Dallas would be a third like game but of those we have left Charlotte FC and New York Red Bulls have just about avoided significant call ups. The other game of note on Saturday evening is the one between Nashville SC and FC Cincinnati which sees two MVP candidates opposing each other when Hany Mukhtar takes on Luciano Acosta.
Betting
I’m not going to go too mad on Saturday night because there are more than 90 players away on international duty from this league and so many teams have been affected by them but there is one match where absent players are at a minimum and it might just have thrown up the best bet of the evening anyway. That is the one between Real Salt Lake and the undefeated St Louis City SC, who are looking to win their opening five matches as an MLS team.
I think this is a match which is going to yield some goals. I’ve loved watching the high pressure and energetic style of St Louis City SC and with them having a chip on their shoulder which could make them a relentless force this term I certainly don’t see them changing their style here. RSL had their bye week last week so they should be fresh and raring to go. This is a tough part of the world to go to and with St Louis happy to leave their defence a little more exposed than usual in the hunt to win the ball higher up the pitch I don’t think this one will lack goals.
