MLS 2025 – Sunday 13th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the MLS 2025 season concludes on Sunday evening with another triple header of action with the six teams on show all looking to find the result which will bump them up the relatively early standings.

As ever this season, all three matches will have full coverage on the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV with the last of them having a complete build-up. Bookmaker live streams will show every minute of all three games too.

Sporting Kansas City vs Portland Timbers (19.15)

The opening match of the night takes us to the Western Conference for the clash between Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers, the home side looking to find their way in life after Peter Vermes and the visitors aiming for a win which would move them up to fourth spot in the table.

Sporting Kansas City have been in poor form for a while, not just this season but towards the end of last term too and it probably isn’t a surprise that they received the new manager bounce that they were looking for last week when they beat their Missouri rivals St Louis City SC and they will be hoping to replicate that here. After a terrible opening game, Portland have really found their feet this term under Phil Neville with their only defeat in that time coming away to Nashville, which to be fair isn’t looking like such a bad result with the Music City side picking up recently. There are too many question marks around the home side to get involved in this one but I’ll recommend a treble for interest over the night and both teams to score makes sense there. A clean sheet finally came the way of SKC but St Louis look ordinary going forward. 10 of the last 11 matches between these two have seen both teams score and this can add to the list.

Chicago Fire vs Inter Miami (21.30)

We move to the Eastern Conference for the second match of the evening as the Chicago Fire go up against Inter Miami with the looking to move to the top of the table for a few hours at least while the Fire will hope to continue a positive start to the season.

I think it is fair to expect goals in this one. Going into the weekend only Orlando City had scored more goals than the Chicago Fire but the 12 against them in seven matches is a concern. We know there are goals in this Inter Miami side and at the minute they seem to be coming more regularly on their travels this term with six in their two away matches compared to the same number in four home games. The goal line here is 3.25 which is probably as high as I would want to go but it has covered in full in four of the last five between these two and we got half our stake back in the other one and in the seven Chicago matches this season only one of those would have seen this bet lose in full. We would have collected a full win and a half loss in the two Miami away matches. Chicago have a more dynamic attack under Gregg Berhalter and Miami are starting to flow going forward so over 3.25 goals looks a good bet here but if you are only taking the recommended treble then play it much safer and stick with under 2.5 goals where the stats are even more in your favour at a lower price.

St Louis City SC vs Columbus Crew (00.00)

The final match of the weekend takes us to CityPark for the clash between St Louis City SC and the Columbus Crew where there could well be a clash of styles and certainly two teams in different fortunes going up against each other.

St Louis City made a positive start to life under Olof Mellberg but things have gone west quickly in the last three weeks. Having picked up eight points without conceding a goal in their opening four matches, St Louis have lost their last three without scoring and are now the joint lowest scorers in MLS. It probably isn’t ideal that they face the next best defence to themselves and you would have to expect the home side to struggle here. They won’t see much of the ball and Columbus are very comfortable in their setup and are so patient that they will just keep probing until they get where they want to and then will capitalise on it. Under 2.5 goals looks like a fair play here but it is a line I’m always a little tentative backing in MLS so I’ll play the Crew in this one. There looks to be light years between these two sides going forward and with both strong defensively that gap can be the difference. We can get plenty of draw cover on the Asian lines by getting involved in the 0 line so if it is a stalemate we won’t lose anything but if there is a winner I expect the attacking class of Columbus Crew to provide it. With regards to the treble I want to keep the Crew onside but have the draw in play and I’ll add under 3.5 goals to it as that has landed in a combined 13 of 14 matches that these two have played in MLS this season.
